IQ puzzles
Posted by: Nick12 - 10-19-2007, 07:48 PM - Forum: Speaker's Corner - Replies (9)

If anyone likes IQ puzzles I'll be posting one here every now and then. Here's a good one:
A man goes to a swimming pool and swims 50 lenghts of breaststroke. The pool measures 25m (82ft) long and 12m (39ft) wide. It is 1m (3ft) in the shallow end then after 15m (49ft) it shelves (at an angle of 45 degrees) to a depth of 2.5m (8ft). How much water is required to fill the pool?

Answer: to read the answer copy and paste the text to http://rot13.com/index.php

Abar. Vg zhfg nyernql or shyy vs n zna unf orra noyr gb fjvz va vg."

 Interesting article
Posted by: VernJensen - 10-15-2007, 08:19 PM - Forum: Speaker's Corner - Replies (4)

Here's a fascinating article I just read about 5-star software awards:

http://successfulsoftware.net/2007/08/16/the-software-awards-scam/

Very interesting. Beward when you see shareware and tons of awards listed for it, from unknown websites. Look for awards from known, respected reviewers, not trashy download sites. (MacWorld, Inside Mac Games, etc.)

An unrelated question:

I have seen the above phenomeneon already a few times.... where -like in Freddy's post above (page 1 bottom) - there is a roll-bar in somebody's mail, but nothing associated with it.

How does that happen, Freddy..... how did that bar get into your mail ....and / or what was it meant for ??

Talk boards in the custom mansions category
Posted by: brell - 10-13-2007, 04:59 PM - Forum: Forums Issues - Replies (12)

Freddy and I think it is time we start talking about the future layout of the Talk boards on our forum. Right now we have two demonstrations:
1. Talk boards by popular mansions
2. Talk boards by builders.

As we see it we have 4 choices:
1. As above
2. As above
3. Talk boards about every mansion
4. Only THE
Talk
board and no other talk boards.

All of the above have their
pros and cons
. I will discuss them in reverse order:

4. Pros: The category
Custom mansions
will not get cluttered, but
Cons: The
Talk
board will. With many different threads abou the same mansion making it very difficult for people to find appropriate posts.

3. Pros and cons reversed from number 4 and THE
Talk
board will be more or less meaningless.

2. We have now around 20 builders so if we use this approach the
Custom mansions
category will get very cluttered and THE
Talk
board will be more or less meaningless.

1. This is what we admins think is the best approach. When I last changed the separate boards for popular mansions some mansions that had a lot of traffic much earlier were excluded. If we had made the decision to try this in, say, July or August, then some of those mansions would have gotten their own board.
Of course the
Hall of fame
clould include mansions like DoD, ACO and perhaps one or two more that got a lot of traffic after they were published. It is easy to do that.
If we decide to pursue this approach our suggestions for rules are:
a) The mansion gets a lot of talk traffic. The definition of
a lot of traffic
is open to discussion.
b) When the traffic subsides all threads will be moved back to
Talk
and the separate board will be removed. This happens after 3 months of no traffic.
c) The mansion will become a part of the
Hall of fame
.

We would like to see other people's opinions on this matter before we make any decision.

 House of Wonders
Posted by: whitbear8 - 10-10-2007, 10:12 PM - Forum: House of Wonders - Replies (17)

I need help! I am completely stuck in room 16094. I've gone to the left up the silver coin steps and walked up to room 16090 where I wasn't able to go on. Went back to 16094, went down the ladder between the zappers, then up the ladder, over the bouncing eyes, down the ladder and to the right. I tried changing the blocks from gold to silver, but that had appeared to have no effect. I have no other options to move forward in the house. What should I do?

I have made 3 saves, have 18 secrets and currently have 3 red keys, 3 yellow keys and 2 green keys and my score is 9350. I would REALLY appreciate some help. I'm super frustrated!

 Volunteers for next sections
Posted by: Freddy - 10-08-2007, 12:46 PM - Forum: Catacombs - Replies (18)

Well, Catacombs has 9 sections from 9 different designers now. And Mikee is probably making the 10th area.

Before bothering Wink those 10 builders again, I am interested to know if there are new volunteers. Names that come into my mind are: arevn, frost, ryos, Semi-Native, samskelton. All experienced designers.
You don't need to hesitate ...

@ Mikee:
You are next in line to design a section for our Catacombs! Are you in the mood? Please tell me.

But don't start yet with building. With the help from a MM-friend, I will give you a German translation of the instructions.
