IQ puzzles - Nick12 - 10-19-2007 If anyone likes IQ puzzles I'll be posting one here every now and then. Here's a good one: A man goes to a swimming pool and swims 50 lenghts of breaststroke. The pool measures 25m (82ft) long and 12m (39ft) wide. It is 1m (3ft) in the shallow end then after 15m (49ft) it shelves (at an angle of 45 degrees) to a depth of 2.5m (8ft). How much water is required to fill the pool?Abar. Vg zhfg nyernql or shyy vs n zna unf orra noyr gb fjvz va vg." Re: IQ puzzles - Mikee - 10-19-2007 What's that???
Re: IQ puzzles - Nick12 - 10-19-2007 An IQ puzzle is a lateral thinking puzzle. If that helps any. Re: IQ puzzles - aquaMat - 10-20-2007 Oh Nick..... I hated that type of questions already in Math class in school...... and that was a lifetime back... How am I supposed to solve that now, with so many brain cells lost along the way...??

That really sux...!!! Re: IQ puzzles - ryos - 10-22-2007 I read your answer, but I like mine better: Gur cbby pbagnvaf sbhe uhaqerq fvkgl-fvk cbvag svir phovp zrgref bs jngre. If anyone's curious how I got there, I'll post that as well. Re: IQ puzzles - Freddy - 10-22-2007 IQ ... who is in for this one? I will prove that 1 = 2 . Suppose: a = 1 b = -2 a + b = c Now: a + b = c (a + b) . (a + b) = c . (a + b) a² + b² + 2ab = ac + bc a2 + ab - ac = - ab -b² + bc a . (a + b - c) = -b (a + b - c) a = -b 1 = 2 8-) Re: IQ puzzles - ryos - 10-22-2007 Suppose: At the risk of being a party pooper, let me debunk this one. It's easier to see with numbers, so let me just substitute in the numbers (up to line v, after which I change things a bit). Suppose: a = 1 b = -2 a + b = c = -1 Now: i) 1 + -2 = -1 ii) (1 + -2)(1 + -2) = -1(1 + -2) iii) 1² + (-2)² + 2(1)(-2) = 1(-1) + -2(-1) iv) 1² + 1(-2) - 1(-1) = -1(-2) -(-2)² + -2(-1) v) 1(1 + -2 - -1) = -(-2)(1 + -2 - -1) Good for us; we've arrived at 0 = 0. Now, the next line is where it falls apart: vi) [1(1 + -2 - -1)] / (1 + -2 - -1) = [-(-2)(1 + -2 - -1)] / (1 + -2 - -1) ...which, if you cancel out the (1 + -2 - -1)'s, leads to the conclusion that 1 = 2. But dividing by (1 + -2 - -1) is an invalid operation, because (1 + -2 - -1) = 0. Or, in other words, you're writing 0/0 = 0/0, which isn't anything because 0/0 is undefined. 8-) Re: IQ puzzles - Mikee - 10-23-2007 hehe okay wait... 37 a) (33:3)+(22:2)= 35 a) 1318,824:y=11,272 or as best example now in the school: ((44+55)x3) + (44,7x55,8) = That's really nice, then that's very easy, but this y is a little harder but no hard to bring the result.
Re: IQ puzzles - Freddy - 10-23-2007 Freddy wrote: a . (a + b - c) = -b (a + b - c)Simple: since a + b = c, a + b - c = 0 and one is never allowed to devide with ZERO. Because otherwise every X would be eaqual to any Y ! |
