Testing Mansion listed !
Posted by: Freddy - 09-20-2007, 12:11 AM - Forum: Testing Mansion - Replies (7)

Now downloadable at the three lists. Smile

Testing Mansion is young Nick's first creation. To have no misunderstandings: this is not a mansion with designtests ... It is a serious mansion to test yourself!

In over 60 rooms you will find 3 different tests to check your ability to solve puzzles, avoid sprites ... And there is also a fun path back to the testing lobby.

Be aware! Like in all other mansions, you start with 6 Jacks and there are only dollars at the end of each test. So you better take care! 8-)

Enjoy! And I await a screenshot from the first player that finished this new mansion with all secrets and the $ 3.200.

Nick, congratulations! [smiley=thumbup.gif]
Testing Mansion 1.0

Designer: Nick

Size mansion: 2,3 MB

Checksum sha: a7000add68712bea5d821b1ece9e52e2aeef9342

Size zip-file: 872 KB

After unzipping you get a folder with the mansion, a sub-folder called
Screens
and a Read Me First text. Start with the latter to know how to do some screen-swopping in the easiest and fastest way.

The Testing Mansion has over 60 rooms and contains 3 skill-tests and a fun-path. Be aware! There are only dollars at the end of each test!

Some mansions get their own forums...
Posted by: aquaMat - 09-18-2007, 12:18 PM - Forum: Forums Issues - Replies (8)

...others don't.

Not that it's really important.... but sometimes there seems to be a rather random logic at work as to when mansions get their own forum.

While in some cases the amount of traffic is clearly so huge (e.g. MM & M), as to warrant a forum of its own, in other cases I'm not so sure......

For example
The Adventures of Ted
mansion doesn't even exist at this point of time and if you take a closer look at the single, rather long thread for Ted you quickly realise that half of the posts aren't about Ted at all, but completely different things.

On the other hand there are at least 5 or 6 different threads for DoD, some of them several pages long, but apparently it doesn't
qualify
.....
Another example is Helter Skullter, which had quite an amount of posts, if I remember correctly.

NOTE: I am definitely NOT saying that Wingy doeesn't deserve his own topic, especially as I know he'll be proud of it (BTW: Congratulations on winning the contest); it was just an example.

However, I'm generally not so sure if it's such a good idea to have too many individual forums/topics (outside of TALK), as it makes browsing new entrants definitely harder (more work) as you have to open more folders (categories).
Jack-stuck in The Testing Mansion
Posted by: aquaMat - 09-16-2007, 04:27 PM - Forum: Testing Mansion - Replies (8)

Nick12,

I'm sorry to report I found quite a few issues in your Testing Mansion.

The most important one (that I remember) is a vicious Jack-stuck in room 402. There I got stuck in the middle of the room between 2 grey doors (and no lever to open them) !!

 Windowed mode drawing bug
Posted by: ryos - 09-14-2007, 02:51 AM - Forum: Game Bugs ?! - Replies (6)

Here's an oddball for you. Set the screen resolution to 640x480 and hold down option when the game starts up to start in windowed mode. The game should position the game window off the top of the screen to avoid clipping on the bottom. Start a game, and start running around. What do you see?

The effect is quite weird. It's like the game draws the room in the proper place, but Jack exists in a separate plane that is offset by about the amount the window is positioned off the top of the screen. When he runs around, he leaves a trail of offset graphics in his wake.

I discovered this because, for the first time ever, I tried playing Midnight Mansion on a widescreen monitor and found the stretching at 640x480 quite unacceptable. I set the lowest 16:10 resolution I could see (800x500), then started the game up in windowed mode.

Obviously, this is not a very common bug, so you may or may not want to fix it before the expansion pack ships. Smile

(It happened in MM 1.0.8, not an XP beta, but I figured it was probably present there too.)
