FAQ now has Level Builder download link
Posted by: VernJensen - 11-24-2011, 07:01 AM - Forum: General issues and game bugs - Replies (7)

I've updated the FAQ to include the Level Builder 1.2.2 download link. This level builder does not run on OS X Lion, however, if you have OS X 10.6 or earlier, you can use it to still edit mansions (exporting to HD format using Rezycle when you are done with your changes) AND 1.2.2 has features that allow you to turn off glows for keys, coins, and also disable shadows on either a per-room or per-mansion basis.

This means that custom mansions can be updated to work nicely with the HD version of the game *now* without having to wait for the level builder to be ported.

 Room 16509 problem

Maybe I don't know anymore about how to handle my MMM. But as far as I can see, I can't take the moneybag at the save pedestal in this room. Is this due to HD? Or not?

 Spammer Log (updated 1.12.2011)
Posted by: RobSeegel - 11-23-2011, 03:22 AM - Forum: 008 - Replies (2)

Here is a spreadsheet I've been keeping of all the spammers/spammer IPs that I've spotted. As of 22 Nov 2011, I have over 400 entries - many of which have been repeated several times. I'll try to update it here at least weekly.

I've been getting to the point where I'm starting to see repeat visits from certain IPs (and user IDs). Some of these entries represent Spammers who actually were able to create accounts either manually or through an automated means (more likely).

It really isn't too hard to spot unusual activity when looking through the error log. Spammers aren't really subtle about trying to gain access. Many are counting on being able to post immediately upon registration (I've seen these attempts, too), so it's good that they are unable to. From what I've seen, many don't even try. They register accounts and never go online.

What do I hope to accomplish with this? Well, it's another tool to help identify spammers and weed out fake accounts. I think gathering information is the first step in identifying the worst and most frequent offenders. What amazes me is that I really don't spent *that* much time tracking this and still have quite a few entries. Anyway, I'll keep with it as long as I can.
The Great Escape easy - Jack stuck
Posted by: Freddy - 11-22-2011, 09:28 PM - Forum: Included mansions - Replies (25)

On the first attached image you can see that my Jack forgot to take 2 purple keys to open the 2 clearly visible purple doors. So therefor he went back down via the left wing.

When he arrived in room 17102 he couldn't continue further to the right because the zapper beam rhythm on the bottom floor did change since his first visit over there.

And on his way back up again, he got stuck in room 16900 because even in HD he can't climb poles. Wink See the last attachment.

 The CMs subforum
Posted by: brell - 11-22-2011, 05:43 PM - Forum: 008 - No Replies

When a logged-in user, including admins, use a link to a topic (CM download) in the CMs subforum, the ability to modify that topic is unavailable and indeed it looks like the user has been (temporarily) logged off.

Freddy, how did you do it? I never was able to do it for the MM2 downloads nor the MM1 HD list.

Hint House - missing green key
Posted by: Freddy - 11-21-2011, 07:17 PM - Forum: Included mansions - Replies (9)

After finishing 5 serious mansions, I decided to have a quick look in the Hint House. Nicely built up. Much better than the previous tutorial.

I really liked it till I got in trouble ... missing a green key to be able to continue. >Sad

But I am guilty as charged. Being too long away!!

Spoiler alert:
The lever on the Save pedestal behind the purple curtain must be floating, because it's not working. Jack can't proceed.
Nightmare mansion easy - Missing $100
Posted by: Freddy - 11-20-2011, 05:10 PM - Forum: Included mansions - Replies (2)

High score lists are also good as an indication of what probably the perfect scores are.

In the past, and even yesterday, I was never able to get all the money in this mansion. And I know perfectly well where I don't get the $100 moneybag. Somewhere left of a double green and purple door that stay closed to a lack of appropriate keys.

But thanks to the high scores list I am sure now that it really is possible to get that final moneybag. Somehow.
Room 16298. When Jack comes down the vineyard he does not arrive ON, but BEFORE the top brick. When he continues to the left he falls into the deep. RIP :'(

 Deleting accounts
Posted by: RobSeegel - 11-17-2011, 04:37 AM - Forum: 008 - Replies (54)

If you delete a suspicious account, can you send me the Username, IP, and email address if you can? I've been tracking both the accounts I've been deleting, and the ones I see attacking the forum on the error log. Some of the spammers reuse their fake email or username again and again as a sort of calling card. This can be helpful if they're attacking from a new IP that hasn't been widely reported yet on spam lists.

Here's what I've been looking at:

- Google the IP, if an IP gets hits on the first page for one or more of the following:
-- Stop Forum Spam - IP Check - [IP Address]
-- BotScout.com: IP Check: [IP Address]

Then it's highly likely that it is a bot that is spamming us, trying to register an account. I've found if you follow the links to one of those pages, you will generally find either the username or email address somewhere in the list - sometimes it's a close variation.

I will also sometimes to searches on the email address and/or username. The very generic ones that would come up in a lot of searches are generally fake. Typically a real forum user will come up with a few reasonable hits, though not always.

If I don't have enough evidence, then I leave the account alone. If after one day the new user hasn't been online (which I judge to be atypical behavior), then I will also delete the account.

This may sound incredibly dull, but it's actually been a little interesting. If you don't feel like doing any of this then that's fine too, but please do pass along the information, please. Very few of the attacks actually succeed in registering.

I'd be happy to post the spreadsheet I've been keeping somewhere and updating it periodically if there is any interest.
