Beta 3: Castle Basano
#11
15498 - Hard

Some of us use different keys for long jumps. I personally use A & S, which is very difficult to navigate between the space bar & arrow keys simultaneously.
I must say that throughout the many beta testing I have done on this mansion, the green bricks in this room are just way to far apart from the large one. Had it not been for
Extra Life
I would have given up.
I see nothing wrong with moving the lower, far right brick closer to make the jump easier.

I find that there is NO way to kill the medusa head in this room before Jack to jumps onto the disappearing ledges.

Say what you will about speed of play, but to me, this is a unavoidable death for Jack.

Missy, sorry but I have to disagree with this one. It is hard, no doubt. I died once by timing the jump wrong, but it is doable with patience and practice. I didn't even need to resort to a long jump key - simply the right arrow, then space.

I haven't finished this mansion yet (on Beta3C - working on it now), but I've encountered relatively few really long jumps so far. Maybe if there had been a red bird flying around these dropping blocks, then that might have pushed it over the top.

Once you finish this room, it's a relatively short distance to the next save point, and there isn't too much between you and there should you happen to use up a few lives working on the jumps. Plus, there's a few shields nearby as well to help cope with one of the screens that have spiders and zappers, potentially helping you to reach that save point.

It seemed pretty appropriate to me. This was one of my favorite mansions in Beta2. I'd hate to see it made too much easier Wink

16694 - Wow - that was really hard. the zappers were pretty close. This was the first place so far in the mansion that gave me serious grief. At this point, I had 11 lives, and I burned through most of them the first time around. Luckily, I'd saved nearby, so I could practice, but still it was a little frustrating. I was incredibly happy that the switch disabled the zappers! Otherwise, I would have intentionally run into one of the zappers intentionally to return to the other side. [Nothing needed here, just my notes. It got better after a little practice.]

16701 - You might consider moving the coins so that they cannot be reached by jumping from the corridor beneath.

16702 - I'm not sure you really need this sign for Hard, perhaps for normal. In any case, the text is a bit awkward, how about:

Remember to watch the level above you while you're jumping. There could be a snake, for example, that Jack's head will hit.

You might even consider replacing the text with something that fits in better with the other signs from Basano, and not like something out of a tutorial. Maybe something like:

Be mindful of dangers above while jumping,
OR,
Watch your head while jumping to avoid lurking dangers
OR even something like:
Welcome visitor to my humble maze, home to several exotic and deadly species. Please feel free to jump as often as you like. There's nothing a venomous snake enjoys more than a good surprise.

Thanks Rob, I'll make changes.

16302 and 16498 Hard - this may be a game issue rather than a mansion issue, but I particularly noticed it in these two rooms - Jack is able to stand on lava that is one tile wide without dying.

That's not a bug, Jasweena. Jack only can fall through holes and lava that are two tiles wide or more. If there is just one lava tile or pit, Jack won't fall through.

Thanks Anthony. I knew that about holes but for some reason didn't realize that lava was included in that. Smile

Admittedly it's a little strange though. Maybe move the lava down one tile from where jack's foot can be? Logically, it does seem like his foot being right on top of lava like that should burn his foot or something.

Normal

As Rob mentioned above, I also encountered the closed gray door in 15901 because I hadn't pulled the lever. I missed a big part of the red area where the gold/silver blocks are, because I didn't finish that area before I went up. I had intended to go back but couldn't.
