General Discussion
#21
I totally agree with rose, it is getting very difficult to follow the problems in some of the discussions.

Also, it might be helpful to split out the new topics into Easy, Normal and Hard. That would make it even easier to follow the discussions.

I too agree with Rose & Semi. Especially with separate groups for the Easy, Normal, Hard. This could alleviate the congestion.

But as far as posting until the very end of the mansion is finished, hmmmm that could pose as a bit of a problem. Think about it.

Maybe Vern could just delete all the posts, leaving the board in tact, since the posts are no longer needed?

If everyone just put the room number in the upper left hand corner FIRST, before any dialogue, (not in the middle of dialogue), then it would be VERY EASY to scroll down the list looking for specific room numbers.

Find sprite in mansion...
that searches all rooms in mansion for the currently selected sprite in the editor's list of sprites.

This is SUPER useful for things like
Now what room did I put the lantern in again...?
or
Do I have more than one lantern in this mansion?
As well as if you're merely curious how many enemies of a certain type you have, or whatever.

It can also be used for counting keys and doors, but if I have time I'll add a new dialog just for that purpose too.

Great Tool!

If only you could make something along those lines for finding room #'s in the Testers Board Mansion posts. It would be a lot easier finding already posted problems.

One of the things that Missy said that makes great sense to me is that the FIRST thing in the FIRST line of any comment regarding a particular mansion problem be the room number and the difficulty level.
That would be a great help in sifting through comments and not reiterating them. For example, if you are testing Castle Basano and find an error in 15499, the first thing a tester writes in the comment under the topic Castle Basano is 15499, Easy (or Normal or Hard). That would save endless sifting to find if a comment has already been made about that room. If there is not a division between Easy, Normal, Hard in the actual boards then defining the room and the level would surely help. This is a big project with a lot of people so we need to simplify as much as possible, in my opinion.

By the way Missy, in reply to the posts which were deleted, you won't be ever be 'required' to hold back on reporting a bug in a mansion. I really don't see any reason why not to, because it saves time.

As for the person who puts the bug fix on the record... well, that's mostly my job. I have a long list of bug fixes for all of my mansions I'm working on, that is steadily growing.

I still think it is a good idea to preface a comment about a room in any tested mansion with the room number and the degree of difficulty before any comment is made. For example, if I am testing
Castle Basano
and make a comment in that testing topic, I start my comment with 15590, Easy (or Normal or Hard) before I say anything else like
In Castle Basano I found a bug in room 15590...
. It would make it so much easier to filter out previous comments about problems with a room.

This is what I just wrote to Vern -
Hi Vern,
OK, I will stick my head under the blade, but I think what is happening with the beta testing seems random and chaotic in many ways. Multiple posts about multiple problems in the same mansion. My suggestion would be to assign testers a specific mansion(s) after the initial bug fixes. That seems to me to be a way that all mansions would be tested equally. Perhaps, if you want everyone to test, you could switch mansions among testers after a specific period of time.

I find I am spending more time filtering through the messages on a mansion's board to find if a problem has been previously reported, than I am playing the mansion. Not good!

Sherry, that is a BRILLIANT IDEA! Assigning mansions & then rotating them around is purrrrrrfect. [smiley=cool.gif]
