List of cm's that work in MM1 HD
#31
I finally got it, but I had to log in on that page again. It's just so strange, and I think that's the only page I have the problem with. Go figure.

Anyway, it's uploaded now. :o

Semi-Native: I've been running into what you were seeing. I've found that so long as I follow one of the
shortcut
links to the download page. Then I have no problems modifying the mansion. The only ones I had issues modifying were when I followed the link from the download by mansion name post.

Yes - I realize it makes no sense at all. When I go and create the shortcut in the mansion boards (and I've had to do a bunch), I seem to have no trouble getting in to modify the download page.

Incidentally I've finished P-W. I didn't realize there were so many mansion by Brell, Anthony, and Freddy in that bunch. I left those alone. I'm ready for my next bunch - I'll take care of L-O unless someone else is already working that section.

I've got G-K, I guess...

Update

Ok, I'm done with G-K, and I'm ready to take a break from this for a while. If you look back at the early posting in this thread where I had the big lists, you'll seen that I'm marked all the mansions that I've converted and uploaded. That should give you some idea of where I was.

I haven't had a chance to go back and add some comments to those that weren't converted (category 3 or 4) just yet. I'll probably do those after the initial ones are all done. Feel free to jump in, but do note the range of mansions you're working on, please. I think we're somewhere between 60-75% done, maybe a little more.

Brell, I haven't gone and checked all the ones you were updating. I'm sure you probably finished them.

I've done enough damage for now...

I had an earlier post in this thread about exactly that. I'm uploading the mansion zip inside another directory. For example take
The Warrior
:

I create a directory/folder:

The_Warrior-HD

Inside the folder, I put:

- the README.html
- The Warrior.zip (converted mansion)
- (Any additional files)

Then I compress the distribution directory (The_Warrior-HD-1.0), and that's what I'm going to upload. It should accommodate all cases that I've run into. At least, this was what I was planning.
Let me see if I understand you correctly:
1. You zip the HD cm
2. You put zipped cm in a folder with any other files you are uploading
3. That way the mansion stays zipped and the player can move it to the cm folder and play it without unzipping it if he wants to.

I am having two second thoughts:

1. Perhaps we should give the checksum for the zipped HD cm files, if only to keep the same rules everywhere because it may also confuse players if the only checksum given is for the old file?

That would be different than the other checksum then. It's for the entire bundle, not just the mansion. If we do it, it should be like to like. I do realize that most of the other
bundles
were just a mansion, but that's not universal by any means. Still, I was sort of anticipating that, which was why I was reformatting things the way I did.

2. Rob, do we really need to upload your readme file with every HD cm?  Isn't it better to put it on the boards, for example in the MM1 HD talk board, perhaps in a locked and sticky topic?

No you don't. I don't feel it has to be universal. I did it that way because I feel that there is a big potential for confusion with the new format? zipped or unzipped? can I use old mansions with the game, and on and on. I think it's very sensible to have the info on the board somewhere. Keep in mind, there are some folks who may not have a constant internet connection, who might be connect, and download one or more mansions, then disconnect. I was just trying to ensure the info was close at hand, especially since the new game packages things up differently. It used to be that a sizable amount of documentation came with the game itself.

Of course, I have done this with at least 48 mansions so far... Smile

I already have most all of the mansions converted. What I will do is create one directory, add a README to it, and then duplicate that directory about 12 or 15 times, go through and change the file names, then add the converted mansion to each directory and any associated files, then zip them up. Then I'll work through adding them to the forum one at a time.

You know... it wasn't entirely consistent before.

I will start uploading mine and Freddy's ready HD cm's today. I will also make a new list in the Download board, which you can then add to.

I can see that Rob has already uploaded some of M&J's mansions, which is OK.
I can also see that we are not handling the info in the same way, i.e. Rob, Semi-Native and me.  Is that OK by you or do we have to decide on one correct way?

Yes, I'm sorry - for some reason, I associated yours and Freddy's mansions with you, and that was it. That's still a pretty good number, since you and Freddy have been pretty over the years creating mansions. I figured many or most of M&J's mansions had graphics issues anyway, so didn't significantly add to the overall count.

As for consistency well.... usually I'm almost fanatical about it. In this case, there's a few things about how the info was presented that bothered me before. As someone who has download many a custom mansion over the years, I'm found the way the info to be presented was kind of chaotic.

What I basically did, was move the info that would be most useful interesting to the person who was playing the mansion, and put that at the top. The designer, the difficulty, the storyline, rooms (if info was already there), and other info about the mansion. I think most folks care the most about this information a lot more than file-related information such as checksums, etc. Anyway, I moved this info together and to the top, Also, in some cases where there was an embedded fie in the distro, I'd move the text to the storyline/description/notes area in the download page.

What you said about it being somewhat confusing having to take into account the checksum and other file-related stuff occurred to me as well, so I wanted to format things in such a way where it was clear which file the information was associated with. I also wanted to emphasize in some way that one file was for MM1 and one for MMHD.

Anyway... I can change much of it back - it's not hard. These were the thoughts that drove those changes though. Sorry about the changes.

I have noticed that we no longer have to give the size of the zipfiles since the forumsoftware adds that to the zipfilename.
