Ugh... I just found a stuck issue in Nightmare Mansion Easy that's probably going to be a real bear to fix. I was trying to get ALL treasure. My first attempt, I missed one money bag, and ended up with seven keys: 4 purple, 1 green, 1 yellow, and 1 red (obviously there were a lot of
optionaldoors that I didn't have to open). When I went back through a second time, I was able to get the money bag I missed the first time (I had to use four of the extra keys and some creative navigation to do it). But ended up needing another purple or yellow key to go further. I know this isn't enough to go on to put a fix in place. I have a map of the route... but it's not pretty. I'll see if I can find a fix that doesn't cause other problems. It does look as though the mansion is short 1 yellow, and 1 purple keys (and one red - but that one isn't a real problem), but given that it was possible to end up seven, adding more keys may hurt depending on where they're placed.

It is only the red key missing but as I said one has to run back and forth. One has also be very cautious when to go down a pole.
I think add ing the red key as I have proposed. Take out a few poles and have vines instead so one can climb up again. Also it might be wise to shift around the keys a little.

Keep in mind, *I'm* talking about Nightmare Mansion Easy which has one less red key, purple key, and yellow key. The levels for Normal and Hard are subtly different, with potentially different issues. The red key issue for NM Easy is pretty easy to spot - it's all the way at the top of the mansion, and the disparity is because of a fork. In room 16297 there is a red key (behind a blue door), and a red door on the lower level. If room 16296, there is another red door. This is what I call an exclusive fork. Jack can open one red door, but not both - nor should he need to, because there is no way back up to use the other door even if he had another red key. Not all forks are exclusive. Cathedral towers has an inclusive fork where it's necessary for a player to go down both paths to finish the mansion. Anyway, when Jack goes into room 16296, he can see that the only thing on the other side of the red door in 16297, while in 16296 he can see that there is another way to get to the same pole, but with treasure this way. Normally, for an easy mansion, I'd say get rid of situations where Jack should pass up one (useless) door for one that has treasure further on, but this one should be easy to spot, and the player would only miss out on treasure if they were very careless. The player *has* to enter 16296 to grab the blue key to open the blue door in 16297 in order to get the red key. Personally, I'd still be OK with eliminating the useless red door in 16297. and/or walling it up, to make the red keys match up, but I don't see this as critical. I don't see a major problem with red keys in Easy. The red keys/doors match up everywhere else in NM Easy. The issue in Easy has to do with purple and yellow keys - not red. It is probably a different case in Hard or Normal.

So you are saying there are less purple and yellow keys then it is in the original NM easy?

Incidentally, I have to do
tricksrunning around the nightmare mansion, too. I believe it's part of the mansion, intentional... and annoying, but part of how the mansion was designed. I believe the treasure behind the red door you mention is a bonus for passing up on an optional (but very convenient) red door elsewhere. I don't believe we have any keys in secret areas in MM HD. I'm pretty sure that was deliberate. I think it should be possible to get all the treasure for a mansion. I don't think it should be easy *especially* for a Hard mansion. There are other Hard mansions where one has to make similar choices. I'm going almost done looking at NM Easy... and I'll jump past Normal and go straight to Hard to take a closer look.

I went back and grabbed the version that I have bundled with the original game to look at it to be sure. In fact, all the counts I put in the key imbalance thread were taken from the original version, and then double checked against recent changes (there shouldn't have been any key changes - but it was just to be sure).

The key image I posted was from the original MM and it is only the red key missing according to it.
