Beta 4 (5) - Nightmare _Mansion - rose - 07-29-2011

Nightmare Mansion hard
16501 Secret room down low right, going into 16502 doesn't give a secret point. Should do I think.
This I have tested in beta 4 but I guess it is still in Beta 5.

Re: Beta 4 (5) - Nightmare _Mansion - rose - 07-30-2011

In this room 16501 there is a red door. I never have a red key to open it. I have to do tricks running back and forth in the mansion refraining from opening certain door to being able to get a red key for it.

Suggestion is that in the secret room there could also a red key be for this door!

Here is the Key count from the original mansion. No wonder that I have problems!!

I find this mansion a
Nightmare
to pass through all rooms and use all keys. Somehow it seems impossible. Some keys are in the opposite end of the mansion to where they are to be used.

There is a whole other thread devoted to these key imbalance issues. You have to be very careful when determining how these imbalances are fixed. Especially in the case of the Harder mansions. In some cases that I've seen the imbalances are deliberate. Added another key can drastically affect the difficulty. Keep in mind, this is the Hard version of the mansion. If anything, I think the Easy version might use some mods.

Personally, I do think it's appropriate in a Hard mansion to have optional doors that do not *have* to be opened (though are very convenient when they are). The consequence of opening an optional door, is that a player might not have all the keys necessarily to open another optional door later on in the mansion (one that might contain treasure).

This has been a debate since the first days of MM: Shall the player be able to visit ALL rooms in a mansion in one playthrough or not?

Or to get on in the mansion which has happened a many times in this particular mansion.

Personally, I dislike exclusive forks in built-in mansions, and find them highly unsatisfying and frustrating because as a player it makes me think that I missed something crucial that would have allowed me access to both areas. I generally will avoid playing such mansions if I know there are areas like that in advance.

However, I don't mind some key/door mismatches in harder mansions where optional doors give players a choice between convenience and treasure. I think this sort of scenario doesn't have a place in Easy mansions.

Have you found a stuck scenario because of keys? That's quite different. I tried and tried to trigger one, but couldn't. Once I was close, but it turned out a
grunt jump
got me unstuck.

Re: Beta 4 (5) - Nightmare _Mansion - rose - 07-30-2011

Yes, I think so. I had used a green key to early. Should have kept it and checked other rooms first. I used it on the left door in16496. The right door was already open. I can't remember the details but I had no way to get a purple key I think it was due to this. Jack was
d-d
tired of running back and forth in the mansion to find keys.

I'm still analyzing Nightmare mansion for stucks. I'll try to find the scenario in Hard that you're talking about. Nightmare mansion is probably the most difficult mansion to check all the combinations because of its layout. Falcon Manor is a close second.
