It makes sense.
The current behaviour allows for interesting puzzles as well though. Plus, you can prevent Jack from climbing a ladder from the middle (with a hole in the floor).
I don't think a change would greatly impact my own mansions, so you could go either way. Except my ongoing problems with having scenery in front of Jack
