A couple of days ago I found a new 2D platformer game that is quite charming (even though, of course, nowhere as good as MM).
It's called CAVE DAYS and features several cavemen that are hunting dinosaurs and many other things..... and even if its graphics aren't as detailed as MM's it has quite a number of cute bits....and also involves stuff like moving platforms, ropes/vines, water-diving & swimming....... and other nice features.

I liked it....(and until now it hasn't become boring).

So much so, in fact, I even bought it when the 60 demo minutes were over.... something I can't say about many games.

Anyone ever tried it ?
Hey, writes nevertheless times which otherwise still your favourite plays is!

For example:

Unfortunate I did not experience somewhat in former times of the homepage. Would be now on Member cunning also gladly first!

But fortunately one can would amount to. One clicks simply on Posts already sorts and is I above 8-)

But times another asks at you:

How their does it create so many Posts in so short time closes?I am now only 55 days here in the forum and am only Adventurer. Does it give to write so much?
As promised here is the first tile set from M&J Mansions. This one is from the Mummy's Revenge mansion. I'm still working on the Dummy's Guide to Custom Graphics but I'm also trying to clean up and archive all my MM artwork which at this time is scattered all over my Mac.
These are the easily replaceable graphics and I've left out some of the more difficult ones until I can explain how they work in DGCG. In the meantime please feel free to look at these and use them if you wish.

Happy FLW to all,

1° After unzipping the file and opening the Archief-folder, drag both the DoD-mansionfile and the DoD-datafolder to your Custom Mansions folder of MM.
2° Throw away the empty Archief-folder.
3° Play DoD and don't swop files after playing!

Info by aquaMat:

After unzipping you have a folder that contains the mansion, 5 background music files and a read-me-first textfile. We advise you to read that text FIRST.

The complete story about this new mansion you will find at Talk in the topic
Discotheque of Doom released soon
.
DISCOTHEQUE OF DOOM Release Statement:

Later today DoD will be released.... but before I'd like to give you the story, a few tips and other remarks.
Even if I didn't find the time to design all of the custom graphics I had originally planned (it got far more work than I could handle....and I didn't want to delay the release any further), there are enough custom graphics in the game to create the effect I was after. And although it is possible to play DoD with the standard sprites set, please don't. It just doesn't look good. Please take the exra second to replace/add the graphics, sprites and music files. It's well worth it.....

The Story:

On his way through the teenage wasteland, Jack has met some creatures of the night who told him about a mysterious place:

Into the caves of a hill, a rich lunatic has built a discotheque.

Only few wanderers have ever reached it, the path is long and full of dangers.

It's the Discotheque Of Doom, and Jack will try to find it...

Jack doesn't fear the dangers that await him, so he put on his fancy nightlife outfit -
for he is sure that one day he, too, will be one of the chosen few
who ever danced at the Discotheque Of Doom.

Tips & Advices:

DoD is not an easy mansion. Its difficulty ranges from normal to (occasionally) very hard.

You should especially keep in mind:

Be alert at all times. There might be secrets hidden where you're not expecting them...and occasionally there might be dangers where you're not expecting them.

DoD contains quite a number of secret rooms or areas.
You got to know that some secrets are hidden more than others, so you might only find them during later, repeated plays. This is done purposely to keep the replay value high. So PLAY AGAIN !

Take care at the edges of the rooms: Is the floor really going all the way through?
Sometimes it is required to JUMP from room to room.

Some zappers are quite hard, but only if you head straight into them. It's always advisable to first wait and watch.... soon you'll see the pattern and it will be quite manageable.

One thing is unique to DoD: at several points on your route, you can suddenly be
propelled back
to a spot much earlier on your way !!
This can be good or bad, depending on the situation:
Good: sometimes the
exit
out of a certain area is via such a
shortcut
to an earlier part and sometimes it is a means to get out of a hairy situation alive. It might be unnerving to have to do mileage again you thought you had already mastered, but at least you are alive...so it's good !
Bad: there are other occasions where you simply make a wrong step (say instad of jumping, you're walking into a gap in the floor) and instead of dying you are landing in an earlier room. Again: you didn't lose a life..... but you have to walk....and walk...

But don't panic: if you take care and watch your steps this shouldn't happen....

Always remember: the goal for Jack is to find the central big dancefloor.

About the music:
In a discotheque the music is always important, and even more so in the Discotheque Of Doom. So please play with music ON.

The mansion starts out silent, though..... and more often than not you'll come through silent areas.
That could mean several things:
- Suspense level is rising
- Keep your ears open..... the sound of critters, footsteps or other things might help you
- you're obviously not close to a dancefloor if you do not hear any music.
- you're in a secret area. (In most secret areas of DoD the music is off)

All tracks have been written, played and produced by me... some specificially for DoD, but the majority for other projects (but even those have been re-edited for DoD). Please DO NOT distribute or share the music tracks on their own. Respect the copyright. Thx.

Have Fun !

(And don't hesitate to post any questions you might have).

Hey,

I know that Vern always says that the feature list of MM is more or less closed...and then he goes ahead and adds features anyway. I figure that as long as this forum is here, I may as well use it and hope for the best, right?

So, I'm tentatively dipping my toes in the waters of the editor, and I immediately noticed something that I want very badly: navigation buttons! It seems there is a lot of back and forth involved when tweaking the boundaries between rooms, and the
open room
dialog can get a bit cumbersome for this purpose. A
compass rose
of buttons that move to any of the eight adjacent rooms when clicked would be great for this.

Actually, the buttons themselves become superfluous if keyboard shortcuts are employed. I know GUI programming is usually the hardest part, so I would be quite happy if all that gets added are keyboard shortcuts. I'm thinking command-arrow keys here. You could also use the numpad for the diagonals, but it's harder to reach for and I'm betting that diagonal motion would be infrequently used anyway.

So, after a long and winding post, I come down to just requesting that command-arrow keys be made to move between adjacent rooms.

Thanks for noticing me. [/eyore]
I found this bug in both the game and the editor... for some reason, after you press map quite afew times, you can't go back to the map screen when you press
m!
Nothing happens! It happened to me while I was testing Ted. I just got to the last room I made, press
m
to look at all the rooms and it didn't work! And in the editor I tested and pressed
m,
then found a bug, fixed it, tested again, pressed
m,
nothing happened! I restarted the app. and it worked again. You'd have to suspend and quit and go back in in Midnight mansion... its a rare bug, but its there! :o
I know, I've been talking about it for quite some time now, but....

Discotheque Of Doom is close to release now !!

(Oomph...(sigh of relief) 8-)).

The beta-testing is finished, thanks to brell (and Freddy) who did a wonderful job, and to JoeB. who gave me several valuable tips on how to perfect some custom characters. Thanks a lot to you all !

I only have to set the music IDs, make a package containing all the necessary files, send it to the admins....and we're up and running!

For those who don't like custom graphics (or the file swopping that comes attached to it):
even though custom graphics are used in DoD only sparingly, and the mansion is playable with the standard file set (but looks rather strange at certain places), I'll really recommend you make those few steps needed to use the custom file set.... as it really is part of the gameplay:
- the music is important for the dancefloors, for the rhythm of your moves
- the decoration, like paintings and statues are important for the look and feel of the discotheque, and sometimes important for the gameplay
- last but not least: it's simply more fun (and looks much better, too).

Rest assured though, it's not 20 files that need to be changed.... just 3 folders. I will supply an easy, straightforward explanation.

Thanks for your patience.... I know I wanted to have that ready at least several weeks earlier.
Now it's only a matter of 2 more days or so.

As a last appetizer, below you'll get a glimpse into one of the inner rooms.....near the central dancefloor.
