Sorry, but there is already an update yet of The Wall. In version 1.1 a very small layout issue got fixed, because without this change too much was given away.

When I announce that this mansion is quizzical and very hard, I believe that it has to be so. 8-) No?
As my X-Mas gift to all MMF-members, I like to present you a new small mansion. Downloading is now possible via the 3 lists.

Loyal to my own style, The Wall is definitely quizzical. And I assume very hard as well. When during play, you suddenly have the feeling that there is a very unexpected death of Jack, keep in mind that it is a ... hint!

Players who peep in the editor, will as always be punished. 8-)

I am looking forward to any
mansion complete
-screenshot. And here is a screenshot from the mansion.

This small mansion is my X-Mas 2007 gift to all MMF-members. It is certainly quizzical and maybe very hard as well. And when you experience a rather surprising death of Jack, keep in mind that it is a ... hint!
This weekend updates of Discotheque of Doom, Creepy Cottage and Korvak's Keep will certainly become downloadable. The latter two because of a wrong number of secrets. In KK, no matter how many secrets you did find, you always finished with 100 % secrets. We don't like our mansions that easy ... don't we? 8-)

Updates of other mansions may follow soon.
After finding solutions for the problems discussed in
Talk >Problems with older custom graphics mansions (DoD)
I announce the arrival of:

Discotheque Of Doom 2.1

In this update it is no longer necessary to swop any graphic files. You can experience DoD easier than ever before.... only the supplied music files should be put into Game Data >Music (provided you don't have them already) and off you go !

A good reason to re-play DoD !

PS: I have sent all necessary files to Freddy yesterday, and I'm sure he will release it very soon.

(Version-number completed by Freddy)
Dear friends,

a couple of days ago I replayed my old
Discotheque Of Doom
. As you might remember it was created back in March with an earlier version of MM. Back then, when we wanted to incorporate custom graphics we had to supply additional
Midnight Mansion Sprites
and sometimes even
Midnight Mansion Graphics
files for the game data folder.

This is no longer needed since version 1.0.9. came out.
However, I found out that older mansions with custom graphics can show some very strange effects when opened in MM 1.0.9.

To be able to play DoD with the custom graphics I had to exchange the MM Sprites and MM Graphics files (the old way) in the Game Data folder. After doing that it should be possible to play pre-1.0.9. custom graphics mansions quite perfectly (that's what Vern said).

BUT: While all my custom graphic bits worked perfectly, suddenly there was a new problem - in every room were I used switches (floor buttons) they were surrounded by a square white background, which totally - corrupted - the images and often gave the game away (by immediately showing were hidden switches were etc.). (Just to make it clear: those switches are NO custom graphic bits, except for one !!!)

It looks terrible. See for yourself (Pic below).

In the meantime I discovered the reason for that:
Apparently Vern has changed the
method
with which floor switches are designed. While (in the res file) they used to have their image on a WHITE background in older versions, like most other sprites, they now have their image on a turqoise (purple-ish) background (which is the color for
transparent background
).

After I have changed my custom switch to a transparent background the problem was gone.

I advise you strongly, should you ever have created mansions with custom graphics PRIOR to version 1.0.9., to check them for problems !
I just got a trial version of Painter X (www.corel.com) is great for making backgrounds for Midnight Mansion. There's a free trial there.

This image I painted in 3 minutes... If I put a bit more effort into it, then it would become a great background for Midnight Mansion.

I first paint-bucketed the background dark blue, then did a few angled strokes of an oil brush with a slightly brighter blue to make that nice Midnight sky. The ground I used a green and a normal brush, and the trees on the ground where just dark-greenish-brown color. The stars where just white dots, just clicked with a normal brush at a reasonable size.

The moon, was a nice detail. It was like doing the star, (just clicking once, not dragging, with a bigger brush) Then I got a smaller brush and drew the craters and stuff on the moon with a normal grey tone.

Then I got this picture... took me 3 minutes.
Hi all

Has anyone noticed that the title screen graphic for MM bears and uncanny resemblance to the writer Stephen King's house in Maine, US?
