Something to do when you're not playing MM
Posted by: sherryl199 - 02-09-2009, 04:06 AM - Forum: Speaker's Corner - Replies (1)

If you are interested in US politics, appalled by US politics, intrigued by US politics or just need something to do , there is a small, independent news network in Minneapolis, Minnesota covering the reelection contest between Al Franken and Norm Coleman. The courtroom proceedings are SO boring, but the live blog on the site is wonderful - sort of like the MM community - participants from all over the world although it is a US thing. My son-in-law, Marc Elias, is one of Al Franken's lawyers- and won the action figure contest, long story. Anyway, it's a fun, addictive blog on live from 9 - 4:30 Central time. If you get caught up in it, there are some good recaps on the Uptake. The address is www.theuptake.org

Oh.... I just clicked your link !

I wasn't aware of that
bug
.

Normally it shouldn't be possible to play the custom mansions without buying the full version.

And I don't think I find it very good that you publicised this bug.

20 $ is really cheap, IMHO, when you consider how long it took Vern to invent, write/program and improve this game and how much fun it will bring you (see above).

Therefore I don't think it's a good thing to tell people how they can avoid having to pay for this game.

 Hey there
Posted by: Rohful - 02-07-2009, 09:16 PM - Forum: Hello ! - Replies (5)

My name is Rohful (not my real name, of course), and I'm another one who's starting to get addicted to MM. Don't expect me to be quite active, as I'll mainly be just posting questions in the Bugs thread... and possibly a Custom Mansion (if I do happen to get the full version one day - note my Custom Title to the left)

So... hey Smile

 Serious Demo version problem
Posted by: Rohful - 02-07-2009, 09:10 PM - Forum: Game Bugs ?! - No Replies

Hey all,

First of all, let me first say that I just love Midnight Mansion! However, I've been playing the Demo version, and I've found a serious mistake. All of the mansions are included in the Demo version, right? So since version 1.1.3 has been released, by dragging the mansion you would like to play into the Game, you are able to play all of the full version Mansions in the Demo version, and Custom ones too. But you can't enter your name in the High Scores list... but that doesn't matter (well for me, anyway)

This has been a real shame for me, as I have been looking forward to playing all of the Extra Mansions in the full version - now it seems I can do it in the demo. Sad
I don't think I'll think I'll play the full version Mansions as I'll just ruin the experience..

I don't really want to be spending $20 just for the Level Editor...
I would consider bringing down the price (haha), or exclude the full version Mansions from the next version.

Thanks,
- Rohful

 The organisation of custom mansions
Posted by: brell - 02-02-2009, 09:20 PM - Forum: Forums Issues - Replies (12)

When Freddy and I accepted Vern's plead for admin responsibilities at this MM forum, one of our concern was how to present custom mansions to forum readers and MM players. Freddy came up with the idea which we have used for more than 2 years now:

1. Organizing the CM's by a) Author, b) Release date and c) CM name

2. Creating a CM
sub
category in such a way that when a user clicks on a link in one of the boards in 1. above, he is taken to a category where the CM's are named by their checksum as it is calculated when the CM zipfile is run through the command
openssl -sha
in the Unix Terminal program found in the ~/Application/Utilities folder. The idea was that the user would then be able to check whether the CM zipfile had downloaded correctly.

3. We also laid out a few rules of numbering CM versions in order to make it easier for users to check whether they had the newest version.

As most of you know my computer's hard disk crashed badly in last autumn and I just got my computer back a few days ago. For a few months only Freddy could upload new CM's or new updates of older CM's since there are a few things we look into before uploading and without a working MM program I was unable to do proper CM uploads.

And then Freddy had to attend to personal matters and has been away for a while now, making it impossible to upload new CM's (and updates) the proper way.

(I know that Freddy will be back eventually, so don't worry).

Meanwhile I have had a few new CM's to upload and the only way to do it was to ask the authors to upload them themselves in the
Talk
board. Then I made a new board for the uploaded CM and moved it to that board for downloading and discussing purposes in order to keep the same system that we have now: One CM in one discussion board.

I hope you are still following my storyline :Smile

Now we have most of our CM's in a special board for downloads where they are sorted according to authors, names or dates. Then we have a few mansions that can only be downloaded in their special boards.

My question is:

Do we want to keep the old system (and then I will move the most recent CM's to the download board),

OR

Do we want to be able to download the CM's from the CM discussion boards (in which case we will NOT make them available for download in the old system as well)?

At last! But I may have lost all my data, including all MM custom mansions.

Builders please bear with me for perhaps a few days more while I organise my stuff and then I'll upload the newest CM's properly, including recent updates.
OS X 10.5 problems?
Posted by: VernJensen - 02-02-2009, 05:23 PM - Forum: Game Bugs ?! - Replies (9)

Is anyone here using OS X 10.5 with Midnight Mansion? And running the game full-screen?

I just got a report from a user saying that the screen goes black whenever he does anything that brings up a system dialog box. (i.e. tries to open a custom mansion, or type in his name for the Player Profile, open a saved game. etc.) Anyone else had problems like this when running full-screen in OS X?

 Perpetuum Mobile Help please
Posted by: dlcatftwin - 02-02-2009, 04:30 AM - Forum: Perpetuum Mobile - Replies (4)

Hi all,
I'm having a good time with Perpetuum Mobile and am most done (I believe). But am stuck at Room 21090, where the two platforms do not go down far enough to be able to get to the conveyer belt with the purple key.

Below it is room 21290, where the vine is just
too short
for Jack to grab it (so he can get to 21090 from below - see my picts attached).
So what's a traveler to do? Help most appreciated.
Many thanks,
New posts in Approved Custom Mansions
Posted by: sherryl199 - 02-01-2009, 07:49 PM - Forum: MM1 Talk (Mac only) - Replies (3)

Is there a way to know if there is a truly 'new' post in an Approved Custom Mansion section? Does a player have to open each mansion, regardless of when the latest post was posted, in order do have a truly new post for that section? Wow, that even confused me! It's just that it always says there are new posts in a particular alphabetized section of custom mansions even when the newest post for any mansion in that sections was months ago.
