MM HD went live in the Mac App Store today. But before I announce it publicly on the ActionSoft blog and mailing list, I wanted to get feedback on how to do the $5 upgrade option.
First, it's highly critical that if at all possible, Midnight Mansion HD gets
If MM HD doesn't get featured, it's unlikely new players will ever find it in the store, and I really need the publicity.
Apparently the Mac App Store considers featuring games that meet some minimum requirements of sales and ratings. So here is my plan:
- Have all owners of the old Midnight Mansion purchase Episode 1 on the Mac App Store for $4.99. But download Episode 2 from the ActionSoft website (once this version becomes available). I could make it so that the registration codes from the original Midnight Mansion work for Episode 2, thereby making the total cost to
The advantage here is that A) Users get their $5 upgrade, and B) Hopefully a lot of sales and ratings are generated for Episode 1 on the Mac App Store, which will hopefully result in the game getting featured. And that would be a Very Good Thing for the future of Midnight Mansion.
My question is, does this sound acceptable? I know it's a *little* weird to download Episode 1 from the Mac App Store, and the other from the ActionSoft website, but in my mind it's the best all-around solution.
Please note: for those who don't want to purchase Episode 1 from the Mac App Store, YES -- I WILL be making that available from the ActionSoft website as well in 2 or 3 weeks hopefully. But the hope is that most people who have OS X 10.6 or later would get Episode 1 from the Mac App Store, which would allow them to review the game there, again, hopefully increasing chances of getting featured.

Featuredby the Mac App Store. Being featured means it gets listed in one of the categories on their Games page, such as
New and Noteworthyor
Staff Favorites. Right now, it's not listed there. Apparently only selected games get listed in any of those categories.
