Are we still being attacked?
#1
Here is the newest member:

Idadyxowemozomem

What kind of username is that? And why is it that most, if not all of our new members add the following as a personal text:

We love the Midnight Mansion
game and all members
of the Midnight Mansion
Forums

All the trolls that we removed this autumn had this text as a personal text - it seems that new members still do.
I suspect that our forum is still under attack. It's too bad that the YaBB software does not provide a better defence against those hackers, like having to read and write down a 5-letter/number code before being able to register.

I propose that we issue yet another warning. All newbies will have to login at least once during the first month after they register. Failure to do so will lead to removal.

What do you think? It would be nice to have your opinion as well, Anthony.

Yes, I've noticed that personal text myself. It does seem really odd, so go ahead and issue another warning.

Sorry that I couldn't be around for the culling of hackers from the forums, I had a many things to do. I have noticed this message on some newbies on their message, and I assumed that it was the default setting that Freddy installed, but now that I think of it, maybe I'm wrong? An organized hackage?

But seriously, what is the point of creating endless users like this and going through all this trouble?  :-? They can't post any spam or anything, I really think they're just banging their heads against a wall.

It must be annoying having to remove all of them. I concur that we should delete any user that doesn't log on the forums after a month, with a warning of course. This egregious behaviour from these hackers is quite upsetting.

I was checking those that registered in last November and never came online. They all have the personal test above and they are all in the Tester usergroup. Why? Surely Vern hasn't given anybody a Tester status after MM2 was released. Shall I remove these people from our forum? After we added the read/write process to the registration the trolls are no longer a problem but they are still a nuisance.

I just noted that the newest mamber, Kiff, who registered yesterday, has the text
We love the Midnight Mansion
game and all members
of the Midnight Mansion
Forums
and is registered as a Tester.

I just discovered that the personal text is a default text that the MM forum adds as a personal text when a new member registers :-[

I do not know who wrote that text in the forum settings (admin page) but is must have been one of us (Freddy?) because it is hardly the forumsoftware itself that adds this text.

I'm sorry having bothered you with this but at least we have an explanation for this text. Should I remove it?

Yes, I think it should be removed. I'm glad you discovered where that was coming from! Thanks, brell.

OK, removed. But what about the Tester group? How come new members are automatically (it seems) put into that group but are also in the Newbie group? I have checked the admin pages but cannot figure this out.

I don't know, but I've wondered about that myself. Maybe we should contact Vern about it? That group could probably be eliminated now. What do you think?

I'm not sure if we can remove that group. I'll ask Vern about this.
