Custom Mansion Conversion Project (now with spreadsheet)
#1
I've decided to start on a project: converting custom mansions, and playing them to check if they're ready for MMHD. I'll post here about the mansions I've played, and bring up any issues I find.

EDIT: I've set up a spreadsheet here, so that anyone who intends to have a go at testing custom mansions can note down their findings in one place.

Status Board

A Room of One's Own by Freddy
Size: 1 room
Difficulty: ???
Status: Conversion successful, serious graphical glitches on run

Happy Hannukah! by Psychotronic
Size: Tiny [11 rooms]
Difficulty: • scaling up to •••• of 5
Status: Perfect conversion, ready to go (though a JackStuck is possible in room 16298)

Landlord's Pub by Freddy
Size: Tiny [2 rooms]
Difficulty: •• of 5
Status: Conversion successful, runs fine (slight problem in Room 16099, with spider's dragline drawn slightly off compared to spider).

Malone Manor by Alan / Falcon
Size: Tiny [4 rooms]
Difficulty: Utterly easy
Status: Perfect conversion, ready to go

One Room by Alexander
Size: 1 room
Difficulty: •1/2, of 5
Status: Conversion successful, runs fine (with a few layering issues; all appear deliberate except the glitched tiles by the exit door)

Note: My analyses of size ('Tiny' through 'XL') and difficulty are my own judgement. I welcome disputing opinions.

I decided to start by playing 5 mansions: A Room of One's Own, Malone Manor, Landlord's Pub, Happy Hannukah!, and One Room. All (though I was unaware of it at the time) were very small mansions.

There are a few things that could be addressed in some of the mansions.

A Room of One's Own didn't display properly at all (see 1st image).

The spider's line in Landlord's Pub is slightly separated from the spider. (2nd image)

Finally, the bricks under the exit of One Room are glitched (3rd image).

I'll be playing more custom mansions soon. If anyone has questions, comments, suggestions, corrections, whatever— I'm listening Smile

Dear SoItBegins. We, the admins, will test or ask players to test the custom mansions for MM1 HD. First and foremost we will ask the authors to test their own custom mansions and make necessary changes so they can run in the HD version of the game. If we cannot get in touch with the authors we will decide what we will do regarding the mansion(s) in question.

We will also upload these mansions in HD format when they are ready. We have already started testing some of the cm's, including those you mention. Finally, we will post instructions on the boards on how to convert the cm's to HD ready mansions and what to to with pict resources, changed graphics, etc.

In the examples above, the spider-line problem and the
glitch
in front of the exit door have been known for ages and have nothing to do with the HD version of the game. What you see in the first example is the glow from some of the keys in that mansion. Vern knows about this and will make the key glowing optional when he releases the MM1 HD builder.

Please read this post about attaching pictures to your posts. The png format takes a lot of space.

Please don't get me wrong. It is appreciated that someone is ready to check the cm's for the HD version. We will post a list of HD ready cm's after the HD is out and gradually upload them in HD format.

First off, I want to say: sorry. I didn't know. Sad I thought I could get a jump on the whole custom mansion thing (and also, I'd be able to make progress towards a zip file of all the custom mansions in the new format, something I searched the board for [a zip file in the old format, that is] but couldn't find).
I'll probably still keep playing custom mansions, but I can stop posting my results here if that's what you prefer.

Also, I'll set SnapZ Pro to take JPEG files from now on.

You can of course test all the custom mansions if you want to. I myself have started on my own and Freddy's mansions. The only thing we should be looking for is whether they are playable in the HD version. To check that we have to play through them all from the beginning to the end. It is not enough to check whether they open in the HD.
Whether there are glitches like you report above is not something we are looking for in the custom mansions. Take Freddy's
A room of one's own
for example. In my opinion it is the authors choice whether he fixes this or not (after it becomes fixable in the HD editor).
When the HD is out we will start uploading custom mansions that we know are playable and ask for volunteers to test other cm's in the cases we cannot contact the authors. Note that while Vern and Actiosoft has the copyright of the included mansions, the cm builders have copyright to their works.

I think here's what I'll do. I'm going to make one of those online spreadsheet things, and list my testing results there. That way, I can have things be out of the way, and anybody who wants to join in can.

EDIT: Spreadsheet is [here]. Enjoy!
