Big Announcement

No creating files on your computer, uploading to forums, downloading from foums. Just click Create Mansion once logged into your account, and Publish to make it available to other players.

And other players go to the Mansions page to see a list of mansions with different categories they can click on, ratings, statistics (# hours people have played that mansion, average % secrets found, etc.), and comments where they can leave comments and chat about that mansion.

Again this will all take a lot of work and won't be done in 2025. But it's part of my vision for the future.

I guess that you will try to include already published custom mansions into the web version?

Yes. I'll probably only upload a few mansions myself, where the original author is no longer around, and let original authors upload their own mansion under their own account, so that they can be the 'owner' of that mansion, controlling various settings for it.

And forum admins can then upload any other mansions where the original author is not around any more.

If I understood everything well the 1st launch will contain MM1 HD only. And the original MM1 and its builder will never be on the web. This may sound like disappointment but is absolutely NOT what I am trying to say. Since a MM HD builder is on the shortlist for later launches, it wouldn’t have common sense to keep both MM1 (including builder) and MM1 HD (including builder). And the choice for HD is obvious.

Half of the game” is already “ported and running
.  :-? I see a half Jack Malone in a half room … Wink So I am interested in how it looks like in reality. But that is not my 1st question.

Q1:
The transitional period between now and the 1st launch of Midnight Mansion on the web feels like an opportunity to do useful things. Around the release of MM1 HD, my friend brell did convert nearly all custom mansions. But you may have noticed on top of the home page that recently there were some updates of MM1 custom mansions. And much more are planned. But the HD-version of these CM’s don't get their updates.
So, what is the best strategy for us to get the custom mansions in their best HD-shape for the web-version? Waiting with updates till the HD-builder is there or going on with the updates for MM1 that later may be converted in group or … ?
We must keep in mind that all those custom mansions needs a thorough check of the HD-version because of the glowing keys and coins ...

Correct, the original Midnight Mansion has been unsupported for years, and should be considered replaced by Midnight Mansion HD.

Haha. More like certain features are missing. Like right now it has no in-game map, no stats area, no save, no Game Over, no title screen, no Map screen. Instead you just click a button to load a mansion from a Zip, and it plays that way.

Formerly lots of features were missing, like when Jack runs into enemies or items nothing happened. Or conveyor belts and disappearing floors didn't move. Initially, none of the enemies moved. :-) But gradually I've been adding all of these. So now much of the game is playable.

Maybe I can post a video to the Facebook page at some point to show its current state.

My recommendation is to convert any recent mansions you wish to preserve to HD format. And if those mansions have had updates, convert the updated version to HD.

Once the web version of the game has a level builder, all future updates can just be done using that. So there won't be multiple versions of the game... just one web version.

It sounds like a tough job that you are doing, but I do understand that it also is very exciting and giving a lot of satisfaction with every step of progress.

That would be nice. And teasing for us all. Maybe with a header-link on top of the homepage?

I have never done this converting but really want to do that starting with the 5 recently updated MM1 mansions. All the Midnight Mansion applications or running on an Apple with Mac OS X 10.5.8 . With this configuration, is there a way for a no-nerd like me to do that?

Hey, I bought an old laptop loaded with an old version of the OS just so I could still play MM2.

I'm in on the subscription service!

Freddy, there is info on how to convert a MM1 mansion to the HD format in the FAQ here:

https://www.actionsoft.com/games/midnightmansionhd/faq.php#ExportCustomMansionToHD

It looks like the required program 'Recyclez' is still available to download (?), but I have no idea if it still works. You might need an old computer to run it, not sure.

Yeah, that's the only way to play the game currently. :-D Shows you're one of the true fans!

It will be cool once MM HD and MM2 are both online, integrated with a Level Builder, in one integrated community.

I am sooo happy to hear that you are back in business with the Game itself and in the Community and I can't wait for the Game to be published again on the Web for many, many more People to enjoy Smile

I had this dream that the game will come to life again and the community will be
reborn
and grow even bigger than it was before. Now it seems that may come true and I'm so thrilled to see what the future holds for Midnight Mansion! Even started on building a complete new mansion like 4-5 months ago and even to this very day, I'm enjoying the game so much, my friends enjoy it as well, playing the HD version now Big Grin

Also, the idea behind the Subcription fee is totally justified as it is a lot of work to get it working, plus you're doing it in your free time as well! So, I would support you as much as I can on this, and am also sure many other people will too!

So, for the TL;DR people, thank you Vern for bringing a great piece of childhood memories back

The link on the ActionSoft page leaded me to a Rezycle page that:
- informed me that I needed Mac OS 10.6 or later (while I have 10.5.8) to run Rezycle;
- directed me to the Mac App Store where I received the pop-up message: “not available in your country”.

But brell, once again, could help me.
[smiley=dankk2.gif]

I have no idea how it works, but it does and it is easy. At first I will try some things out. And then I will launch HD-versions of updated MM1 custom mansions.
