Yes - that's right.
Yes, I agree with all the above suggestions. Right now I can't think of anything to add, but if I do, I'll post.

I think a good first step is to decide where the new mansions will go, and get that part prepared. We can limit access to it initially, but getting it set up will be a good start. We can also gauge progress of moving mansions/info to the new area. Looking over my previous comments, I don't really care if it's put in the same top-level (
Custom Mansions Area...
) or gets its own new area. Does anyone else have any strong feelings about it one way or another.

It would probably be less work just lumping the newer categories under the existing Top-level category, but my thought is that eventually much of the older info under the existing area may go away or be migrated to the newer area. Eventually, many aspects of the original area will either need to be updated to still be relevant as more and more folks eventually upgrade to the new OS X -- even if it only happens for the next OS X update.

As I suggested new custom mansions will go in the same ol' CMs subforum and so will the updated cm's. Since one post can hold up to three attachments this is the simple way to do it.

Discussions of HD cm's (new or updated) can go in the
Discussion of MM1 custom mansions
(easy and simple) or we can make a new category (a long and tedious job).

However, we need a new category for general discussion about the MM1 HD itself and the included mansions. Similar to what we have for MM1 and MM2. Should we have the same boards within that category?

Finally, general discussion of cm's will go in the existing category. WE will put up a list there of working cm's with links to the download area. We will also ask for testers to test those cm's that the original authors will not test (for whatever reason).

Please note that the forum hierarchy only allows:
1. Categories
2. Boards within the categories
3. Threads with posts within the boards.

That's fine, I never meant to suggest that this would be a new area.

I would say go minimal at first to cover only what is needed at the time. More can be added later as required.

I suppose, but I've tested about 50 or so of the mansions already, and will probably be able to have 100 tested by the end of the week. Not that designers can't test their own mansions... but well, until the game is released, they really can't. It would be nice to have a good number of the mansions ready when the game is released on the app store. The majority are looking fine.

For now custom background overrides will not work unless it's done the old way (not recommended). Likewise, custom graphics probably should be put on the back burner temporarily until the bulk of the mansions can be converted (I've actually been converting as I test). Those that are converted have no changes.

I tested my one small mansion, Sky Boxes, and it's fine.

I can second that - I tested it last night as well. Fun mansion. Testing goes reasonably fast when you are focusing on certain things. Also I'm really loving the enable arrow keys code!

OK. Can you two add to the list of working cm's I made?

We will use the name system
Custom-Mansion-Name HD
, right? Then if you can zip them after they've tested all right then you can upload them to appropriate places, right?

I'll start making the needed categories and boards tonight and for now I'll have them invisible to all but us.

A reminder from Vern on how to zip the HD cm's:

To zip it correctly, open up the mansion's folder (i.e.
Castle Doom Normal
), do Select All from the Edit menu, then control-click on any selected item and to
Compress
. (It'll say something like
Compress 16 items.
) Rename
Archive.zip
to the name of the mansion, such as
Castle Doom Normal.zip
and move it to the parent directory.

You now have a ZIP that can be played as-is! No need to expand the zip after downloading!

I think we should ask authors of cm's with cutom graphics whether we may convert their mansions into the HD format without the custom graphics so long as the mansion itself is working correctly. If they deny it we must respect that, IMO.
