Beta 5 - General Issues
#1
A few small nitpicks you should probably know of.

1] A falling girder platform will block a moving platform if the two are right next to each other. This is deliberate, right?

2] When a platform has touched down in lava and is being consumed, any attempt to jump onto it will result in Jack falling through into the lava; as the platform still appears standable, Jack should be able to land on the platform while its top is still above the 'waterline'.

3] Clicking on 'Load Save' in the main menu will interrupt the organ music (abruptly, with no fade-out) before bringing up the file dialog box. There should probably be a fade or something...

4] Speaking of the title organ music, can there be an option to trigger it to play while on the title screen or something? While I understand that people may be sick of it, I only hear it once a run (at the main menu when I first start the game, only), which is usually before I've plugged in my headphones. I've found myself missing it, so I was wondering if there could be an option or a button or something to let the user have a little more choice over whether to hear the organ music or not... thank you for hearing me out. Smile

Good points about falling platforms. I think they should likely NOT cause horizontal moving platforms to turn around if they are currently
falling
. I'm thinking I should be able to modify this. Will have to look at the code to be sure though.

Actually this *is* a problem in my opinion *especially* in mm2. I distinctly recall rooms including one or two I created which caused the tracks of certain moving platforms to be radically altered and go allĀ over a room in unexpected ways that are impossible to plan for.... Aside from not combining falling and moving platforms in a room where their paths might cross.

Yes, which is why I plan to fix it.

I think I understood you well enough, but I also think I read more into Rose's post than was intended. So, I'll simply ask: Rose, do you think this issue is anything *other* than a problem or bug? I'm more curious than anything else.

I'm more curious than anything else. I have a memory of one of the mansions, I can't recall which but I can see the room for my eyes. There is a platform going down a yellow moving brick that is supposed to have a rectangular path. When the platform goes down and get the timing wrong it will connect to the yellow one and it will change path. Either jack died and got repositioned so he could go out of the room and back and the room got reset.

I looked into this. I don't think this is true. I was successfully able to jump onto a platform as it was sinking, and jump off it onto safety. However, the timing required to do this is extremely short. The platforms sink very quickly, so most likely what was happening was you were seeing the platform above the waterline, jumped onto it, but by the time you landed on it, it had sunk below the lava.

Hmm. I'll have to check this out in more detail (one particular example of this I was thinking of was in Nightmare Mansion Hard where you have to jump from a skull platform right over lava, to touch a red door to unlock it, then back onto the sinking platform). I'll record myself messing around with platforms and lava and see what's going on.

Okay, you were right. I recorded myself messing about with falling platforms (the recorder has the side effect of making the game slow down, providing a lovely slow-motion effect). I was able to jump on them as they were falling into the lava. Skull platforms too.
I guess I must have just been screwing up on the timing before.

Attached is the recording of me and the platforms. If you don't want to see Jack jump in slow motion, you should probably play the movie at 2x speed or faster (under 'A/V controls' in QuickTime Player).

Also, I discovered a new item that seems slightly off: If Jack dies by falling past the boundary of the screen, and enters the next screen at such a trajectory that he falls into a lava pit, Jack simply falls straight in w/o splashing.
The same occurs if Jack is killed by a zapper beam and falls into a lava pit (on the same screen); he doesn't splash, he just... falls in.
