Beta 3 - Shadow Moving Off-Screen
#1
Hey,

With the light that surrounds Jack, I notice that it will move with him if he dies off-screen showing the corners of that area. It's really hard to explain so I have added a screenshot showing what I mean

Just look at the far left and you'll see what I mean

Understood. Will look into ways of fixing this.

One way would be to prevent Jack from moving off screen if there is no room were Jack is going.

The short term fix would be to modify this particular location in the mansion to prevent the same thing (with or without a more general-purpose fix). Possibly remove that last vine, and put some sort of barrier at the edge of the room.

No, the shadow has been fixed. No need to modify the level.

It's not just that room and level, and the shadow also moves down

Yeah.. I realize that. I'm familiar with the problem - I reported it during alpha, though there were a lot of emails flying back and forth at the time.

It will happen anytime Jack leaves a room where no other room exists in the direction he is heading. Whether the direction is up/down/right/left is unimportant. Also, Jack doesn't have to die to trigger the problem, just continue to run (or fall) off-screen.

I was just suggesting that preventing such a scenario would effectively prevent the problem, since I had no idea at all how ugly it would be to fix. Obviously, having a general fix is better than trying to pretend the problem doesn't exist by hiding it. Since Vern has a fix for it, there's not much more that needs to be said.

I'm glad someone else also encountered it, to help give the issue some more attention.
