For me it was quite easy. I had the yellow so opened the door in the room below and then rode up. Glad to hear I wasn't just losing it. (That would be a discussion for a different topic. :)

Yes, but you cannot open the yellow door without getting a red key at the same time.

I had retrieved the red key earlier and used it in the room to the left of where I got stuck.

So you never got the red key in the room below the yellow door?

No I had not. I learned that was my mistake.

Ok, I have a new problem. I'm in Room 10679 and I can't go anywhere.

You'll ask how I got here. Well, I discovered I didn't need to use all of the red keys at the beginning. I left one of those unopened. I missed opening the blue door in Room 11278. I couldn't go back and open it. I didn't have a yellow key to be able to retrieve the purple key. I kept going up and then to the right and down. Now that I have a yellow key I can't return to the left or get to the other grey bat platform to go up.
