Myphilosophywas kind of like that: Once you've seen a monster, it's your responsibility to not run into it. Example: If you enter a room with fast birds in it (like 16699) on the first level, you know that these birds will be there on the second and third level too. I know, it is not easy to remember that stuff, but you also have your map to look at in case you are uncertain what lies ahead. If this is too unusual or too complicated or anything, let me know and I'll do something about it.
I would not classify this as a cd since the player has already been in the room and should know what to expect. But when a player reaches a room for the first time he MUST have enough time to react to a monster.

The players can choose if they want to safe the game (when they are low on lives) or take the gold and get one life extra (kind of as a reward for not dying yet...). Does that sound fair?
Well, this is an interesting twist. I'm not sure whether this is fair or not - you'll just have to see how the MM community reacts. But at least use a sign to explain to the player what is going on.
