Intel Macs have wide screens that are a different aspect ration than traditional CRT monitors. As such, when you go fullscreen, there will be some black borders on the sides, but not the top and bottom. Otherwise, the image would be stretched to fit the entire display, which would be make it look quite distorted and bad.
