You did everything correctly, no problem.
I didn't expect ALL players to find the left side of room # 16906 before they find the right side, and normally it shouldn't really matter.
Say you came down the ladder and found out you couldn't proceed further down, you immediately see that there's something else going on at the left side: so just return up the ladder and upstairs head to the left..... somewhere there you will find a
(I don't want to spoil it for you, that's why I'm beating around the bush....) 8-)
