MM runs smoothly on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard server in VMware Fusion
#2
7. Shut down the server but leave the VM on.  Now choose settings from the Virtual Machie menubar (see 1. attachment).
8. Select Processors and memory and increase the memory up to 2048 Mb.
9. Click on Add device in the top right corner of the Setting window.  Select the Sound card.  Leave Output and Input devices as they are and just add the card.

Now comes the tricky part.

10. Run  the server again.  In the server (and NOT on the host), open Safari, go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/vmsvga2/ and download the VMsvga2 file.
11. Install the package into the server.
12. Shut down the server and VMware Fusion.
13. Open your user folder on your Mac and navigate to the Virtual Machines folder. Open that folder and you should see your newly created server as a file with the ending .vmwarevm (see 2. attachment).  For safety reasons you should make a backup copy of this file now.
14. Right-click on that file and choose
Show Package Contents
. You should see something like in the third attachment below.
15. Right-click on the Mac OS X Server 10.5.vmx file and choose
Open with TextEdit
.
16. Scroll all the way down until you see the line
sound.virtualDev =
hdaudio
.
17. Change hdaudio to es1371 and do NOT remove the quotation marks!
18. Save the file.
19. Run Vmware again and boot the server.  You should have sound now.  If not, try to remove and reinstall the sound card.

Hope this works for you all :-)
