Let's say that Jack lands on a disappearing platform under a lever, pulls the lever and then has to jump to stay alive. Or, he is on a gold block under a lever, pulls the lever and has to jump to the next silver block. To me this is a totally normal behaviour for Jack.
Actually, I sort of thought the same thing, but the scenario you described brell plus the ones I described were all in the built-in mansion I enhanced for mm2 - all these occurrences had to come out before the release. My thinking had been more influenced by what I'd seen in custom mansions than the original game.
None of these scenarios exist for mm1/hd. Some are quite common in the more tricky custom mansions - all unaffected, but nothing is truly being lost for built-ins.
Update:
Having said that I'm still mildly surprised that Vern decided to take this quirk out, but relieved it's still in the custom mansions. There's just too many interesting situations that this makes possible.
Vern: one thing that concerns me a little bit, though, and I'm going to test it out in a few moments. There are several cases in MM2 where moving platforms (resting on the ground) have a lever above them to start the platform - this is done because the platforms can leave the room. Have you checked to be sure that this change doesn't affect that? It shouldn't, but it's worth checking.
