Would you pls post a pic, as I am not sure which pillar you are at. Did you pull the lever at the TOP level far left behind an angel before going down? Also the lever behind the Knight? (if your still on the top level)
One of the pillars in room 16096 (lower level) has a lever and one pillar has a brick that you have to jump up and down on to activate it to go right towards the ladder in the next room.
