Missy (and everybody): you can give Jack extra lives by hitting the Esc key to pause the game, then type
If you do that during a regular game, when you finish the final screen will say
extra life(without the quote marks). I do it all the time when I'm beta testing. It saves a lot of frustration when you're just trying to get through a mansion.
