For reusing I like glass bottles.
Apart from that, I do keep a (plastic, I confess) bottle of water in my car. If I get really thirsty and far from other sources of water I can still drink some, but the real reason I have it is to use in the engine anyway (windscreen water or cooling water, if needed).
If I'm preparing a long and hot car journey, I take a fresh bottle of water, because otherwise I would most probably forget to replace the previously mentioned one, and if it has stayed long in a warm boot it tastes terrible. Not to mention I had bought a brand which tastes terrible anyway
