JS in PomPomRouge part 2

No-one ever tried that one before! I'm gonna fix it, of course! Thanks for letting me know!

Why didn't anybody try that out before? I thought the mansion was beta tested. This is exactly what beta testers are supposed to do.

EDIT by Freddy, Administrator: brell is expressing his worryness about the quality of the betatesting, unaware of how many persons were involved and who they were.

You are right: The Mansion was beta tested. And Missy did a great job. Without her, there would be five million JS's and CD's. I'm the one to blame. I guess I am just too new to the whole custom thing to think of everything. Especially the easy JD's like this one...

Sorry.

Look at the bright side, though: A CM-architect just learned an important lesson Wink

Well, no offense intended. I am just worried that the number of JS and/or situations that can lead to JS have increased recently, i.e. in newly released mansions.

EDIT 1 by Freddy, Administrator. Seems clear language to me: no offence intended AND brell's worryness is a general feeling and not about Palais Pompomrouge and its betatesters alone.

EDIT 2 by Freddy, Administrator. Although I can't play all mansions any more or read all posts on the boards, because there is so much stuff, I must say that brell has a point. Since brell's computer is still 'in hospital' I did all releases of new CMs and updates for several months right now. So I know that we have mansions from brand new designers (BIG PLUS no. 1) and brand new beta-testers (BIG PLUS no. 2). But it would have been very surprising that the combi new designer with new beta-testers wouldn't lead to more problems than usual. Now my message is of course NOT that those new designers or new beta-testers are incapable and need to stop or quit. No! They are all extremely welcome and deserve both time and space to become better and better. But to be able to improve the skills one needs to learn out of his/hers mistakes. And somehow those errors need to get reported. That is why our boards are so important. No MMF means no CMs and also means staying unknown of other MM-players, -designers etc.

I also feel that there is quite a number of what can be considered rather cheap deaths in this mansion..... stuff like you enter a room and right after 2 steps there is a little lava-pool in the floor, or beasts that sit unconfortably close to a room border, or run at the player with such high speed that it's nearly impossible to escape.

I'm not sure they all need to be be fixed or taken care of, but reducing the amount of CDs or almost-CDs wouldn't be bad, I feel.

I think I know what you mean.

My
philosophy
was kind of like that: Once you've seen a monster, it's your responsibility to not run into it. Example: If you enter a room with fast birds in it (like 16699) on the first level, you know that these birds will be there on the second and third level too. I know, it is not easy to remember that stuff, but you also have your map to look at in case you are uncertain what lies ahead. If this is too unusual or too complicated or anything, let me know and I'll do something about it.

I am also currently working on an alternative improved version where - during the first hard part - the player will find a key and two matching doors: One with a safe and one with 1.000 gold. The players can choose if they want to safe the game (when they are low on lives) or take the gold and get one life extra (kind of as a reward for not dying yet...). Does that sound fair?

I would not classify this as a cd since the player has already been in the room and should know what to expect. But when a player reaches a room for the first time he MUST have enough time to react to a monster.

Well, this is an interesting twist. I'm not sure whether this is fair or not - you'll just have to see how the MM community reacts. But at least use a sign to explain to the player what is going on.

I understand the idea, and perhaps it could work, but I get frustrated when I cannot visit the whole mansion but have to choose some part and leave a door or a part unopened... [falcon manor?]

Perhaps a very very very well hidden extra key somewhere, so that you have to be very very very greedy to find it and get both the save and the gold... Smile

Olle, don't worry!

It is not like you will miss a part of the mansion. It will just be a door which you cannot open with either a save or some gold behind it in plain sight in one and the same room. So there really wont be an area that you cannot
explore
. It will just be a door that you cannot open.

which is the same thing as not being explored Smile all money and all saves should be accessible, in my opinion. But that's just my opinion Big Grin
