Removing trolls
#1
That is NOT a core business. There are more interesting MM-things to do. :Smile

But just to inform you about the 2 criterions I used, to remove weirdo's.
1° The persons (?) who made themselves member and ... never NEVER get online.
2° The lot of persons (?) who became member and were only once online. At the day they became member. Probably just to check if their pharma- or other publicityspot arrived well on the boards.

I believe that NOW there are still over 100 trolls on board. I mean on the boards. So our really number of forummembers is around 100. And that is not so bad, I think. As we said so often in the past: a rather small community.

I agree with you. I have myself removed quite a few trolls, which fall under your categories. Plus anyone with obscene nicks.

Recently, the number of members of this forum has grown up to 6025 members! We are clearly attacked by some spammers. Because nobody can actually do anything until we approve and upgrade the person to
lost one
, then perhaps this is not a problem, but to be on the safe side I think we should delete those spammers. We can use the rules above. Tell me what you think.

Sounds good to me. If a person registered quite some time ago and has never been online since (and never requested to post), then they should be dropped. Let me know if you want me to help with that, since there are so many.

Yes, this is a lengthy and a boring task. It seems that the multiple selection system is now working. This is how we must do it:
Go to the admin section and View/Delete members. Sort the members by days since last online and the reverse the sorting. That way you should get those that never came online after they registered (with - in the online status). What I have done is to mark those I want to delete, check the send e-mail box and then click on the delete button. This has to be done over and over again. My criteria has been to delete those that registered before MM2 was released but perhaps that is too strong criteria? I also take out everyone with dubious names like all that contain
porn
or anything like that.
It would be nice if you all can help deleteing the trolls and even better if oneof you found out how to mass delete.

Since MM2 just got released not that long ago, maybe that's too strict? And you are only deleting Newbies, correct?

Yes, only newbies that have NEVER logged in. I am almost certain that we have been attacked by hackers. MM2 was released in late August, so I thought that we could delete all that have registered and never logged in until about August the 20.
This attack started in the end of last March.

Okay, I'll work on it tomorrow. And will let you know if I figure out how to mass delete.

It just occurred to me that there may be Newbies who just never bother to log in, but instead view the forums as Guest. Then we might be deleting genuine members.

Maybe we should make an announcement about deleting members who haven't shown up online, so the real ones can log in.

What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, we need to do that. I simply forgot that. Just a reminder to newbies to log in before we continue deleting the trolls. How long time shall we give them? I am pretty sure that we have prevented the trolls to register so we don't have to worry about the member list to grow as quickly as it has been doing since April.
