Bugsy Malone
#1
It is a little bit controversial. I know. But I
made
a 2-room mansion to show two odd things that, if I remember it well, both were found by brell.

Problem 1.
Although it looks impossible at first sight, it IS possible to take the moneybag. When coming from the left to the first ladder, very slowly, it is possible to climb it. Notice that I meanwhile show that it leads to a Jack-stuck.

Problem 2.
Take the second ladder down and :'( let Jack die. Jack reappears in the room above!! And that is because the floor where he died was so high in that room.

@ Vern: Will you have a look at these things? The second problem is
only
strange and feels not really honest. But the first one has annoying consequences in a lot of existing mansions, including the 24 original ones: shortcuts, backtrackings, jack-stucks etc.

You are right Freddy. Both bugs were discovered by me or at least I was the first to bring them to attention. Your Bugsy demonstrates both problems very well.

Bugsy Malone was a mansion of which I hoped that it would never need an update. But alas ...

While testing aquaMat's Small Palace of Gore, I am afraid I found a new problem. In the update of Bugsy Malone you will find 4 up and down moving platforms. Try them all. And if you are wondering what the difference is between the platforms no. 2 & 4, well, above no. 1 & 2 there is no room and above no. 3 & 4 there is one.

Platform 4 leads to game-quit.

Sorry Vern. That is again one for you.

Hmm.... nothing happened on platforms 1-3 but on platform 4 Jack died (no game quit).

May I assume that you are using MM 1.0.7 ?

EDIT: Of course you do!! I checked this mansion with MM 1.0.6 and Jack always dies.

Well, Moving Platform #4 definitely crashes the game! And that's no good! Sheesh! Who let a bug like that into the game anyway???

I can't duplicate the ladder-climbing bug. [EDIT: Nevermind. I *can* duplicate it when I use a mansion Brell sent. So I'll look into this, but it might be hard to fix.]

As for the other one (re-appearing in the room above), I'm kinda afraid I might introduce new bugs if I try to change it, but I'll look into it...

Okay, #2 has been fixed. Jack will re-appear in the same room, provided that he climbed all the way down on the ladder, onto solid ground, before dying.

#3 has now been fixed. Hopefully I didn't add any new problems. All I did was make sure that Jack won't move into a new room any time he's riding on a moving platform, no matter where it goes. (Although, a nice feature for a game sequel would be to add code to allow moving platforms to move *between* rooms. That would be awesome, but currently the game isn't set up to handle that -- it would take a bit of work to add.)

Yeah, Vern.... I'm dreaming about / hoping for that feature for a long time....
That'd be just wonderful, as I could finally build  real elevators, that move between several floors (= rooms) !!

And another comment:
That what Freddy calls 'Problem 2' in Bugsy Malone, in my opinion is rather good programming (and not a bug). If Jack dies in circumstances that are either too narrow or otherwise unpractical to allow for him being re-born there, I find it rather 'elegant' that he re-appears in the spot where he started off, even if this spot is in another room.
I really wouldn't call that a bug.

Only MHO, though.  Smile
