Beta 4 Available
#1
Here is beta 4:

www.actionsoft.com/files/mmsequel/MidnightMansion2beta4.zip

There are a number of new things for you to test:

- About screen
- Help screens
- Story screen (choose Start Game and check the
Play Tutorial Mansion
checkbox to see the story)
- Unregistered mode limitations
- Online high scores may now be submitted (you must complete an entire mansion). Remember that you can't cheat at all (or use a saved game where you had cheated) if you want to test this, just like the normal game. Please test this if you can! It definitely needs it.

This version is now limited until you type in your registration code. Tomorrow I will be sending registration codes to everyone who posted in the Credits Screen thread. If you didn't post there, send me an email (at
vern
at actionsoft dot com) with your full name.

But, please don't enter the code right away! Test the game first, to see how the demo mode is working. Make sure you can't play any mansions except for the 2 that are partially available in demo mode. Make sure you can't get around that limitation somehow.

Also, could I have 2 volunteers to purchase the game using the link below? Send me an email afterwards and I'll refund the money. I just need to be sure the process is working properly.

Please post a reply to this thread if you're going to do this, so no more than 2 or 3 people do it. I don't need more testers than that.

Also, please focus your initial testing efforts on these mansions that are now available:

Mt. Peril Easy
Jasperlone Mountains Easy
Jasperlone Mountains Hard
Castle Basano Hard

[Castle Basano Hard was already available, but it doesn't seem to have been tested much yet.]

Version History:

- Added story screens. To see them, start a new game, and check
Play Tutorial mansion
.
- Moving platforms now re-appear if they leave the room without you.
- There should no longer be moving platforms that go between rooms whose purpose is confusing (like the one in Dr. Demented's Den in the lower-left secret area.)
- Ladder jumps are now an option in the Mansion Options dialog box.
- Hidden T triggers can now be set to NOT activate if a certain objectID is present in the room. This allows
escape platforms
to be put into the game, which only appear if the platform that brought you from another room is *not* in the room.
- Fixed bug where opening the map messed up conveyor belts. (A bug introduced in beta 3.)
- Moving platforms now re-appear if they leave the room without you.
- New
Beat the Mansion
music.
- Fixed
Reset Object IDs…
command in Level Builder's Options menu so it correctly handles T and H triggers.
- New Help screens.
- New About screen.
- Better Title Screen button text.
- Teaser screen when you quit. (Not active in beta version.)
- NOTE: The newer HARD mansions, like Castle Basano HARD, still have lots of problems (cheap deaths) and needs lots of testing!
- Mansions playable while game is unregistered: Mt. Peril and Dr. Demented's Den. First 2 sections in each.
- Default high scores are now
Jack
with a score of 5000 for all entries. You'll need to delete the existing High Scores to see the new entries.
- Online High Scores are now available.
- Fixed bug where looking at the map screen, while in a room with a lot of gold/silver block levers, could cause the gold/silver blocks to change, simply by looking at the map!

Blackheart Keep:
- HARD: Revised to make this version a bit more different than Normal, with more structural changes in the castle-in-the-sky section, as well as other middle sections of the mansion.
- EASY: Fixed Secret count for this mansion. Previously it was possible to get *over* 100% secrets found.
- Normal: Various changes in castle-in-the-sky and lower section, to differentiate it more from the other difficulties.
- ALL: Fixed spelling of word
trespassers
in sign in first room.

Magma Peak:
- Various revisions to what music is used where. Includes new music in lower-left dungeon area.
- NORMAL: Fixed secret count. It was possible to get over 100% secrets found here.
- Various changes to Normal version, in middle section, to differentiate it a little more from Easy and Hard.
- Fixed consistency issues with ceilings that are in front of Jack in one room, and behind him in another.
16299 (all) - Fixed spelling of
trespassing
and changed sign size. Revised formatting a little.
(15893 and many others) (Easy) - Changed quite a few rooms to be easier. It seems I missed a whole section, that was around
Normal
difficulty, when it should've been easier.
16491 (easy) - Fixed so it's not ridiculously hard to walk from the right of this room to the left after the ghoul is dead.
16698 (all) - Money behind wall is now marked as a secret.
17096 (Easy) - Only one scorpion guarding shield now. (For real!)
16491 (all) - Changed so Jack can't get to the ledge on the right until the ghoul is killed.
16298 (Easy) - Fixed remnant of chain from secret that was removed from this room.
15895 (Easy) - Added wall to this room so the yellow doors in the room above can't be bypassed.

Dr. Demented's Den
- Revised music so no music from the original game is used anymore.
- ALL: Fixed spelling of
accommodations
in beginning room.
- ALL: Gray door in first room now closes right after game starts.
- EASY: 15705 - made this room easier.
- ALL: 16704 - Improved this room. Fixed for Easy so you can't enter bottom area from the right.

Citadel of Dr. Cassiopus
Minor music changes (using new track 1).
16120 - platforms were added to prevent Jack from grunting when falling from a high ledge
15918 - added a ledge near a pool of water to prevent cheap death
15918 Normal & Hard - fixed weird ceiling behaviour where jack could jump, but not walk into a corridor
16318 Hard - fixed a Situation where, if coming from the left and dying, Jack would reappear under the scorpion and have to die again.
16118 Hard - extra spider to block Jack's way when arriving from the room below
15113 / 15114 Normal & Hard - minor fixes taking into account new behaviour of bat platforms

Castle Basano Hard -- Made changes to many rooms to be appropriate in difficulty.

Jasperlone Mountains Hard -- Available for beta testing now in all its glory.
(As a final final mansion in the game, it is 200+ rooms, with ~five new sections.)

* Minor changes consist of making changes from reported bugs, Jack-stucks, places too hard, etc.

Also, I will be out of the country (and away from internet access) from July 1st until July 15th. Please continue testing, but I won't personally be able to read or respond to messages until I return.

Mansion designers are welcome to upload their mansion revisions for continued testing while I am gone.

The game is now VERY close to being finished, so the plan is to finish it up once I return, for a release late July or early August!

This means likely a
Final Candidate
version sometime after beta 4, and if no showstopper problems are found in that, then we release it.

And, I've been too busy to say much, but a big THANK YOU to everyone for all your great testing!! You've all done a fantastic job!

I notice there's still no Mt. Peril Hard.

And I'll buy the game through PayPal.

I've tested the demo mode in all 3 levels (except Mt. Peril Hard is missing). Didn't find any problems, and I wasn't able to get past it in any way. So it seems to be working.

I forgot to mention: when you quit the game, there is a button that says
Click here to buy now for only $20!
. I am waiting on replacement artwork for that. It'll say $25 when fixed.

And yes, you are right -- there is no Mt. Peril Hard yet. Anthony is 80% finished with it, but gone on a trip at the moment. He will probably post it for testing sometime in July, while I am gone.

Vern,

Again from the design perspective, is there a way to select ALL of the objects in a room and be able to paste them retaining their levels?

Something which might be the closest thing... you can go into a room that you want to
copy
and select File -> Save as... from the menu, then select the sguare in the mansion where you want it to go. It basically clones the room with all levels intact. You will need to save it to an empty square though, so ensure that the target room has been deleted first.
