The choice of making changes is totally up to you.
If there is a risk of killing the guy by accident that is not OK. At least in Easy mode

However, if the player deliberately rubs out the poor fella, then it's their own fault.
As for whether changes are totally up to me: to some extent only, the gameplay should match the Easy, Normal or Hard level! And when you design a mansion it can be a bit hard to assess.
