Mansion Comments: Citadel of Dr Cassiopus
#1
Post here for bugs / comments / suggestions for Citadel of Dr Cassiopus.

Remember to mention the room number (push Command-D to see it in the upper-left corner) and difficulty (Easy Normal, Hard) you are playing.

Citadel of Dr Cassiopus Easy
In rooms 15113 and 15114 there are levers that can only be pulled once. If either of them are pulled and Jack then loses a life in the same room it results in a Jack Stuck.

Citadel of Dr Cassiopus Easy, rooms 15113 and 15114

I've just tested these rooms again and found that if Jack loses a life in either room 15113 or 15114, even if he hasn't pulled a lever, he is still stuck.

If he loses a life in 15113 the blue bat platform doesn't re-appear so he has no way to move to room 15114.

If he doesn't lose a life in 15113 and he moves successfully to 15114 and then immediately loses a life there he re-appears back in 15113, again with no bat platform.

Two things in the first section: (I was playing on normal)

• Room 16507: I don't like the idea of you must use a shield to solve the puzzle here. What happens if the player thinks you have to use both the shields on the skeletons? (This may apply to all difficulties.)

• Room 16706: Jack can get stuck if he jumps off the platform in the middle after activating it. I don't really like the idea of the platform stopping right against the ceiling, it looks strange. I believe this Jack-Stuck applies to every difficulty.

Hey there, thanks for the comments. Will look into them as soon as I can, which may take a few days but I will try tonight.

Finally I did it today. Before I answer (which is actually after I answered, but whatever):
I may argue that there is no Jack-Stuck where you feel there is one, because there may be a more or less hidden solution. However,
  • Feel free to insist if you think there really is one regardless of my protest -- I may just not understand how it works  :-[
  • Even so it could be that the solution is not adapted to the difficulty level. Then, please say so and I will try to arrange things. Well, argue first and possibly arrange things after.

In principle you can use the falling platforms to get back to the lower floor, and then Jack is not stuck anymore. It's not extremely elegant but I didn't find a better solution Undecided Try that and tell me if this works.

He he, then he or she must sacrifice a Jack. We don't want to get too reckless and go diving headfirst into things! Wink

I am afraid it is deliberate: because it's a Very Important room in the first section (the last one to some extent), so the player should meet some bit of a challenge. And there is a hint which should put them on the right track.

Actually, a careful player should have an extra shield when entering this room anyway.

I don't quite think that he's stuck (nudge nudge). However I do agree that the platform against the ceiling looks wrong. It stops one brick away from there now (but I'm not sending this modification to Vern yet).

Easy - Room 15911, Jack Stuck on top of the cage from the room above.  I try to make Jack fall from all openings, but I may miss some, so pls fellow beta testers, remember to make Jack fall at all openings to see where he will land or if he gets revived in the right spot.

I agree with Anthony here. There are a few things in this mansion that I do think need revising, but I haven't had time to write about them yet. In general, I don't think players should ever be
forced
to use a shield, particularly on a walking skeleton. Unless a sign specifically tells them to or something obvious like that.

Very good testing strategy, Missy. Good to have you aboard! And, great advice for other testers. :-)
