Beta 2b - Longer Fade-to-black transition between some rooms. [TODO]
#1
The subject formerly contained:
B2b Tomb_HARD brief blackout
before I changed it. --Rob

Attachment included just for visual reference.

When you come up the vine from the bottom into Room 14894, jump the snake and the spider, then move to (room shown) 14895, there is a distinct at-least 1, maybe 2 second blackout before the room's visuals kick in. It occurs when going back from 14895 to 14894, also.

This doesn't happen every time, but it happens frequently. I have reproduced it approximately 6 times in the last 10 tries.

Replay doesn't help. When I tried to record an example, a file was created, but it crashed the game when I tried to view it.

mick,

This is even more consistent than what you point out. I can trigger it 100% of the time when repeating a certain sequence of rooms, in pretty much every mansion.

It's not so much a bug as a known (and minor) performance issue. One which won't be resolved for the initial release. Basically, the new game engine does additional processing now that the old game didn't. This additional processing will eventually be performed on mansions in advance while they are being built, so the slight lag will go away... just not in the near term.

Consider it something for the
To do
list. I'll go ahead and add some more notes to this thread, and close it out for now. I'll probably rename it as well - it's not specific to HARD, or even Tomb of Princes. Thanks for the report!

mick - if you need me to reopen this thread, just send me a pm, and I'll be happy to.

Additional notes: I have come across this issue in all mansions at various points. It occurs most often near points where the blocks change from one style/color to another.

For Tomb of Princes, mick points out one point where it occurs: Between rooms 14895/15095, in Normal, and can consistently be seen between rooms 14894/14895/15094 in the Hard version. I suspect it can also be found in other areas as well.

It's interesting that the in one case, it's simply two rooms, and the other case three. What happens is there is a longer pause between rooms combined with a fade transition.

In the case of the three rooms. The fade occurs between the 2nd and 3rd rooms moving in either direction. This issue is not limited to Tomb of Princes.

Okay, so I'm amused by this thread. I just looked into this, and this is *intentional* game behaviour. The game is *supposed* to fade to black and back when you walk from one
region
to another. What's probably happening is that you guys/gals don't have music turned on. If you did, you'd heard that music is changing in these spots when it fades to black and back. It's meant to signal that you're moving from one
region
in the mansion to a new region.

However, in mick's original post, this is indeed a bug in Tomb of Princes. Obviously, if you're in the lower area here, you're not moving from region to region, and it shouldn't be fading or changing music. I'll get that fixed.
