Knight Mansion Normal bug?
#1
I got a report from a player that seems like it might be a legitimate mistake in the design of Knight Mansion normal. He's at the end of the mansion. He didn't open the teal door near the beginning, so he has an extra teal key at the end. But no purple key to open the purple area to the left of where he's currently standing in the attached suspended game.

(Note: to use the attached suspended game, you must
trick
Midnight Mansion into accepting it by first doing Start Game, playing Knight Mansion Normal, suspending the game, and THEN dragging the attached file into the appropriate folder in Application Support / Midnight Mansion / Suspended Game Data / [Profile name] /

and replace the suspended game in there. Then start the game, and choose Yes when asked to resume your suspended game.

Or if that's too complicated, you can open up the saved game here. But regardless, there does indeed seem to be a shortage of purple keys at the end of this mansion.

I noticed that if you cheat and give yourself a purple key to go to the area to the left, there is a secret area there with another purple key. I don't get this at all, unless the designer intended the player to FIRST open the purple door to the left, find the secret area, get that purple key, and THEN open the purple door to the right, that gives you a lantern. It's all rather confusing to me to try to figure out what the designer intended, which is why I'm asking here what people think.

Clearly *something* is wrong with this mansion though. Various options:

- Change the purple door leading to the lantern to another color (red?), and change the purple key in the hidden area to the left to red instead.
- Change the left purple door to teal instead, so players that don't open the teal door at the start of the mansion can open this as a bonus at the end? (But then they might have an extra purple key when finished, if they get the one in the secret area to the left.)
- Something else entirely? Maybe add a purple key to some room, and remove it from the secret area?

This all will sound very confusing unless you open up the mansion, and do the
Reveal Map
cheat while paused, or use the editor, to study it for a bit, and THEN re-read the comments above, and then it'll all hopefully make sense. But I could definitely use some feedback as to what change people think I should make, and also, if you think Easy/Hard are affected by this?

Pweh ...

Sounds like a very complex problem that deserves a complete beta-testing of this mansion. I am
in
for it, but please keep in mind that I do some other MM-things as well. E.g. I am checking if, YES or NO, there are XP-bugs, because I noticed 2 odd things. No red alarm yet. I first want to have a closer look at it myself.

On the other hand, I know that Alan/Falcon will be working on his Falcon Manors as soon as he is back from the Pacific Islands. It would be nice if any needed fixings could be released together.

What is this XP-bugs?? I hope it doesn't have to do with PCs?!

IMO, there isn't a flaw in the design of Knight Mansion Normal. The fact that the player may choose the wrong door (and end up not grabbing the maximum coins and/or secrets) makes it more fun.

Perhaps BBFMan is right -- maybe it is something where the player can choose the
wrong order
of doors, and not get the maximum secrets. That seems flaky to me, but I guess each mansion designer has his right to do stuff like that.

Well, I couldn't find time yet to have a thourough look. But a previous quick look learned me that BBFman must be right. And, in a matter of fact, that mansion is built in the exploration-line as
wanted
for the contest. Knight Mansion has to be explored several times before finding the perfect way to find EVERYTHING.
