Vines, ladders, etc. for level builder
#1
I've never understood why we have to construct each side of vines, ladders and so on separately. It would be so much easier and faster if the whole thing (side to side) could be done in one click. I understand having to do tops and bottoms, separately.

Vern, could you explain please? I'm sure there's a logical explanation.

Thanks.

I strongly object to that view, Semi-Native.

Only the way it is now, with seperate sides, allows us to build individual vines ansd ladders, by putting one left side tile next to a completly differen right side tile... otherwise all vines would always had the same look, with leaves left and right , where you now can have only a leave at the right side, if you wish.

Same for ladders.

Leaves and flowers could be added separately, maybe. I don't understand what you're saying about the ladders, though. There could still be different styles of ladders. And vines.

It really just comes down to how much time I should invest in the level builder. I could probably spend several months adding features to make designing mansions easier, but in the end, is it worth it? I have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to ease-of-use features. Given copy and paste for ladders and vines, I don't think it's that bad. Just go to any nearby room that has a ladder or vine, copy, and paste into the room you're building, and viola!

It's not worth it. Wink I can imagine how many lines it'll be. ;D

I have four different kinds of vines in the one vine resource. Cable, rusty cable, chain, rusty chain. I also have a top, bottom and ring graphic. I build my different kind of
vines
in a seperate room and then copy and paste. Seems easy enough that way.
Now what I'd like to see is moving background objects. Really would add some spice to the playing environment.

Considering some of the things other people have asked for, I don't think my question is so unreasonable. And really, I wasn't requesting that it be changed (although that would be nice), I was just asking why the game was built this way in the first place. I'm not criticizing, I just wanted an explanation.

The cause?

Mmmm. I am not a programmer. But I do a guess. Each room has an invisible frame of 27 squares high and 40 wide. I assume that the programmer's problem was, that he couldn't make neat vines or ladders from one square wide. And since all other tiles have to be built square per square ...

Btw, after visiting my mansions, your question should be: why needs a ladder to be 2 squares wide ... Wink

Thank you, Freddy, that sounds like a good explanation.
