Actually they were called CARPETBAGGERS. They were people from the North who went to the South after the Civil War. They took advantage of the fact that most southerns were wiped out financially so for very little money they could buy property and land at tax auctions. They also moved into politics by buying the votes of starving people and then using their political office to line their pockets with public money. Yankeescoundrels who look to make profits in the South.
