Jack could look for laser charges in secret rooms. They could be used on the huge spiders, since nothing in Jacks arsenal kills them. The only way to keep them busy is to let them eat something & birds & eye balls are not always available.
The laser charges could be limited to a certain amount per game, so that Jack still has to face a challenge. He would have to be selective as to when to use it.
