Beta 5 - Spider Palace Hard
#1
Well. After struggling through a bunch of mansions the old-fashioned way (and, in multiple cases, restoring from saves), I have finally played and beaten Spider Palace on Hard! Found a few issues, most notably some graphical glitching.

This will be over multiple posts again.

[1] There is a slight graphical glitch in the second phase of the mansion (gray stone level texture, two red doors in hub) where the floor does not appear correctly. It should be noted that these images are only a SAMPLE of places where this appears; the glitch occurs in quite a number of rooms, and I realized I would have problems if I tried to capture them all.

In the first image (room 17698), we get to see an example of the glitch, just to the left of where Jack is standing: a floor block that appears divided strangely in half. This example is easy to spot because the red background behind it makes it show up clearly.

In the second image (room 17696), we see a few more instances to the left and right of Jack.

In the third image (room 17497), we get to see what the glitch appears like when not behind an easy-to-see background. Look in the bottom left corner (you should just be able to see Jack's foot) for another example.

(continued, next post!)

The fourth image (room 17502) is just another simple example.

[2] A few other unrelated graphical oddities.
In room 16902, Jack can climb a ladder with a brick at the top which appears over him.
And, in room 17697, the leftmost spider appears over the gargoyle, while its line appears behind it.

(still more, next post)

[3] Room 18095 is secret in the traditional sense (you have to walk through a wall to access it), but does not have a secret tag and as such does not count towards your percentage.

[4] In room 16699, with the two Save pedestals, I just loaded the game from a save at the pedestal Jack is currently standing on. When I saved at that pedestal, the other pedestal was used, but empty (I had loaded from that pedestal at the beginning of my session), but it shouldn't STAY empty from this session— after all, I did save there. When loading a save, all used pedestals should show statues except the one Jack has just stepped off.

[5] In room 16504, if Jack tries to walk on the half-brick immediately to his left (the one the zapper node is attached to) he will fall through the brick and die.

(that's everything)

I'm really glad you're going through this mansion so well, SoItBegins. I had to make a *lot* of tile corrections in this mansion, to correct something Vern dubbed as
Eye Candy
tiles... also some (not many) layering issues.

Areas like 17502 look a little different with the new tiles. I shied away from making too many changes in these areas, because it really became difficult getting a feel for how the area would like in the new game. Also... it was really hard in screens like this to determine where a fix was really needed.

The game has always worked this way, and it was an intentional decision. The idea was that a pedestal
turns into Jack
when he resumes from that pedestal. So there is only one pedestal that has a statue on it, because when Jack resumes from that save point, that statue
disappears
. That's the idea anyway.

Thanks for all the other reports. I've been fixing them the past couple of hours. Almost done.
