Beta 3 - Castle Doom EASY [closed]

Update - this topic is closed. I'm verifying fixes and doing regression. Further testing should be done using the beta4 release and reporting under Beta 4. Thanks! --Rob

Ended up with an extra green key. Got 100% secrets and didn't see a green door left anywhere on the map.

There are definitely some key issues with the older mansions - several places where there are mismatches between keys/doors. I noted them when I came across them, but was hesitant to modify them since they had been in use for so long. Also, most of the changes I was making were more superficial in nature, with the exception of some stuck scenarios.

I think the functionality within the builder that counts keys/doors wasn't present when the original mansions were created so some (maybe even most) of the disparities were probably accidental.

In the original mansions, the key disparities seem to happen most often with the easy mansions, and the situation gets gradually better as the difficulty increases for a given mansion.

Fixed. Definitely report key/door problems! In this mansion it's obvious: one fewer green doors than green keys.

In others, like Nightmare Mansion, you can't assume, since it's split into left/right halves, so it might be possible to have leftovers at the end. But for MOST mansions, this type of issue should have a bonus at the end if you have the extra key.

Rob, are all these key/door issues in your excel spreadsheets that you've sent? Or did you log them separately?

Most were reported in spreadsheets. Unfortunately, not all in the same spots in the spreadsheet. Sad  The spreadsheet format sort of evolved as I was going through mansions. I just went through my spreadsheets and then double checked the counts.

I created a new Topic that lists a summary for all mansions where I saw an imbalance. At I note in that topic - this isn't necessarily indicative of problems, but I guess it depends on your point of view. In some cases it can really be difficult when Jack has too many keys and can't unload them.

I always *hate* it when I'm playing a mansion and it's impossible to get all treasure. Difficult is one thing, but impossible? I'll sometimes spend a lot of time trying to get everything, because I figure it must be possible, but that's not always the case.

I agree with Rob, it's very frustrating not to be able to complete an entire mansion.
