EDIT 1 by Freddy, Administrator. Seems clear language to me: no offence intended AND brell's worryness is a general feeling and not about Palais Pompomrouge and its betatesters alone.
EDIT 2 by Freddy, Administrator. Although I can't play all mansions any more or read all posts on the boards, because there is so much stuff, I must say that brell has a point. Since brell's computer is still 'in hospital' I did all releases of new CMs and updates for several months right now. So I know that we have mansions from brand new designers (BIG PLUS no. 1) and brand new beta-testers (BIG PLUS no. 2). But it would have been very surprising that the combi new designer with new beta-testers wouldn't lead to more problems than usual. Now my message is of course NOT that those new designers or new beta-testers are incapable and need to stop or quit. No! They are all extremely welcome and deserve both time and space to become better and better. But to be able to improve the skills one needs to learn out of his/hers mistakes. And somehow those errors need to get reported. That is why our boards are so important. No MMF means no CMs and also means staying unknown of other MM-players, -designers etc.
As sometimes before Freddy puts it better than me. But no one can please everyone at all occasions. I remembed very innocent posts from Freddy that caused certain members to explode. 8-)
My intention was never to insult or degrade any mansion builder or tester. As a matter of fact I did not bear in mind who were the testers of Palais P. when I posted my comment. Since September we have had 6 new mansions. Some by new builders and tested by new testers. Both VERY good. But I have had few emails from players complaining about the playing quality of some of these mansions due to too many JS/HJS/cd's. I have not been playing any mansion since August due to my computer problems, which I hope will be over soon (and hopefully I will recover all CM's so I don't have to download them all again). Nevertheless I've been worried because reports of JS/HJS/cd's have also increased here at the forums.
If I remember correctly Missy said in one of her post that she had benefitted from having another, more experienced tester with her while testing. She is right of course. For an inexperienced builder or tester it is very important to have someone with experience to aid both new builders and testers. I myself had the privilege of having the IMO best CM tester ever, Freddy, to guide me through the building of Three Way Mansion. If there are still any JS/HJS/cd's in that mansion they are solely my mistakes and not his.
People have been talking about that MM is
just a game. Of course it is. But most players, I think, want to be able to play through the CM's without the nuisances that JS/HJS/cd's can be. As a matter of fact it has happened that supposedly tested CM's have been temporarily removed from the final lists in order to test them properly.
Freddy said that new builders and players are a big plus and I totally agree with him. I welcome both Sherryl and Missy as beta testers. Sherryl has been around since the beginning if I remember correctly and Missy has been a very enthusiastic MM player for the rather short period she has been a member of the boards. I think it was a rather big step for both of them to
upgradethemselves to beta-testers. Now I want to encourage both of them to upgrade to CM builders and I volunteer to test their mansions (provided I have my computer back).
Someone may be wondering: Why didn't he react before. The reason is that Freddy and I work closely together as admins of this forum and since I am involved in a
debatewhich I hope is based on a misunderstanding I wanted him to react first. I do not want to have a quarrel with any MMF member. On the contrary I have had to resolve a few quarrels between other members at this forum and I know from experience that they are usually based on misunderstanding but also sometimes on different views on MM (playing, building, testing). We must of course make allowance for different views and try to solve our misunderstandings. I think the best way to do that is by email/PM (and that's where we admins may have to help) but not here at the forums. And since I am involved this time I only found it appropriate that Freddy took the lead.
