If you go to the Admin page you can see that there is a new stable version of YaBB available. We have 2.4 but can upgrade to 2.5. Shall we do it? I don't know how to. Besides, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

That's my philosophy - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I don't know how to do it either, but I'd be willing to look into it. I know it's been a major pain for Freddy in the past, a lot of work involved. Maybe they've simplified the process, I don't know.

It might not be worthwhile - have you looked at their release notes to see new features/bug fixes? If there are any security improvements then that might be nice depending on what they are.
I've spent some time recently monitoring the error logs and new registrations, and I was a little taken aback by the number of attacks that happen daily - especially considering it was just during the short periods I was monitoring. I check email, usernames, and IPs against spam tracking sites, and if I find matches, I will delete the user (if they were successful at registering), and note them in a spreadsheet I've been keeping. After only a few days, I have over 170 entries. I am starting to see repeats from IPs and usernames across several IPs.

As far as I can see there are no major security improvements so perhaps we should skip this upgrade.

Sounds good to me. The current version seems to work well enough.
