Numbers of attacks are rising!
#1
Hi! I've noticed that Pre-registered members have been going up the last two days or so. They are about 100 more than usual. What shall we do? Please check the Registration settings under Members under Forum settings.

I propose:
1. Select the registration scheme for this forum: Don't change
2. Max time span for users to activate their account (in hours): This is now 24 hours, I propose we reduce this to 12 hours and even shorter. People that really want to join our forum will activate their account.
3. Email Random Password to New Member Upon Registration?: This is set to yes, I propose we set it to no
4. Send a Welcome Email to Users when you do not have Email Random Password turned on?: This is unset, I propose yes.
5. Require Members to use a different Displayed Name than their User (login) Name?: This is set to no, I do not recommend we change this as it may lead to complications.
6. Ask for Members birth date on Registration?: This is set to no, maybe we should set it to yes?
7. Password-Strength-Meter minimum characters: I propose we increase this to 6 characters
8. Maximum allowed characters in User's Reason(s) for Registering: I propose we lower this to 100.
9. Show and require Registration Agreement when Users register?: I propose yes.

What do you think? We must lower the attacks somehow.

brell,

I agree with no. 2: reduce time to 12 hours for activation.

I don't understand how changing no. 3 would help? Please explain.

No. 6: No, I wouldn't ask for date of birth since we have no minimum age requirement.

I also don't understand no. 7 and 8, why this would make a difference.

No 9: yes is already checked off.

If we change no. 3 then the person registering would have to generate his/her own password.

No 7: If we increase then it is a bit harder to generate passwords, I think, maybe it doesn't matter.

No. 8: All registrations give as reason
We all love MM etc.
If we lower this then at least the hackers would have to write a new reason.

I know 9 is set to yes. I meant we keep it that way.

I'll change no. 2 now.
