Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key [Fixed: Beta4] - RobSeegel - 07-09-2011 Vern, could you create a suicidehot-key for this new game? As annoying as stucks are, and despite the fact that they *shouldn't* be present, they occasionally do happen. It would be nice to have a way of voluntarily killing Jack so you can restart a room (so long as you haven't suspended/resumed). This way you don't have to go all the way back to the last save point. It seems like a low-impact change. I'm in favor of CMD-S ![]() And... in case it comes up. I am in favor of this button costing a life to use, because there's a small potential for speed runabuse. Losing a life like this will probably still provoke someone to report the stuckscenario. Most stucks will then become half-stucks, which are a little less annoying. Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - triforceguy1 - 07-09-2011 I suppose this could be a good addition to the game, however it may make the player think that the game wasn't beta tested well Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - RobSeegel - 07-09-2011 343229262F32232527353971400 wrote: I suppose this could be a good addition to the game, however it may make the player think that the game wasn't beta tested well I suppose this is true, but let's face it - there are lots of custom mansions out there that probably don't get the scrutiny of a typical in-game mansion. Even with all the attention, it's still possible for occasional accidents to slip through. The mansions for MM2 got *lots* of testing, and you might be surprised at the detailed inspections I gave all the original mansions in MM HD before beta fixing lots of small things. Yet, small things still occasionally turn up. I think the benefit outweighs any downside. It's not as though it would be prominently displayed on the dialog that is shown when the game is paused. As an alternative, I suppose you could make it so that when you suspended/resumed the game, Jack would be moved back to the entrance of the room where he entered. That would make me a little sad, though... I would lose a fantastic speed-runtool, and I'd miss it. ![]() Update Another option: a new cheat codethat can be entered when the game is paused. A bit more obscure to use. I'd probably use something like this the most while testing, when I'm deliberately doing my best to get Jack stuck. Arguably, this could be better since it would be more difficult to accidentally invoke it. Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - triforceguy1 - 07-09-2011 I guess you got my vote, just as long as it isn't in a form of a dialogue box but as a hot-key
Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - VernJensen - 07-09-2011 I would think you would want a dialog box to confirm that you do indeed want to suicide. Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - VernJensen - 07-09-2011 What if it were a cheat code? But didn't count as a cheat? (i.e. you can suicide but still post an online score.) You just pause and type suicidein the box. I like that a lot better than adding a new key command. Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - RobSeegel - 07-10-2011 Fine by me... you must not have read my entire post .
Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - VernJensen - 07-10-2011 I already implemented it. It'll be in the next beta release. You just type suicidewhen paused. Thanks. it will definitely be more convenient than starting from the last save point. It happened to me again tonight while verifying fixes on Tomb of Princes Easy. Stuck situations end up costing a lot of time. Re: Suggestion: Suicide Hot-key - Semi-Native - 07-10-2011 That's a great addition, thanks! |
