JS in acid rock? - otg - 02-20-2011

Just downloaded and as usual enjoy playing Smile
In the room 12091 I tripped on the moving platform, fell down to 12191 as in the attached picture (Jacks feet are above the red door...) This led me to a JS later on, since I ended up at a place (room 12893) where I needed a purple key and only had a red and a yellow... perhaps I could get out of there but I aborted the game instead... Seems like I missed out some part above which I can't see how I'll reach.

Don't think I'm supposed to be able to do this, really, but after I came down to 12191 I just had to take a small step to the left to get down. I had a red key so I could keep moving but not far enough

Also, a CD was found at the very beginning, if Jack takes a small step to the left immediately after the game begins, he falls to his death.

Hi Ollie,

thanks for your report.

I really don't know how you managed to land where your feet are in the picture - and of course this shouldn't be possible.
I will try to duplicate your behaviour later and eventually fix something.
As for the CD you mention, I'll have to look up what you mean, too, before I can comment on this.

If there will be changes / fixes they will be included in the next update.

Re: JS in acid rock? - otg - 02-20-2011

I jump quite furiously the first time I play a mansion, especially one of yours since there are strange stuff everywhere Smile
So I think I just jumped and touched the platform so that it started, and then walked off to the right (like,
straight down
, since the platform was moving to the left)

The CD was when I started the mansion. I hit enter to read the sign, then arrow left to see what happened. Jack died, was what happened...

Nice mansion otherwise, of course Smile

Re: JS in acid rock? - aquaMat - 02-21-2011

In the meantime I have looked into both issues you reported.

!. The CD you mention - this isn't a CD in the original sense of the word - it's rather due to a bug (=even though there's a solid ground floor below him, Jack can fall to his death).
But you're absolutely right - this isn't very nice and shouldn't happen.
I found I can prevent it by putting Jack to a starting position a few steps to the right - and I fixed it accordingly.
It will be in the next update.

2. The
surviving a fall / misstep from the platform - issue
in rooms 12091 / 12291:
This is also very strange. Strictly speaking Jack should NOT be able to survive a fall down there - but I found he even does AFTER I filled the ceiling in 12291 completely w/ layer-4 bricks. For me that, too, has aspects of a bug.
But as the goal must be to avoid even the smallest chance of something like this happening, I worked hard to find a solution.... and ultimately I did find one.

I have already designed it into room 12291 and it will be in the next update as well.

I just feel I should wait a while, maybe there are other players out there who find a few smaller issues and then I can fix 'em all with the forthcoming 1st update.

Thanks a lot for reporting this stuff !!

Re: JS in acid rock? - otg - 02-23-2011

filling the ceiling completely always makes Jack survive when he falls in from above, is my experience. Leaving one small strip unfilled can make him hit and die, though.

Sorry about the
secret-secret
... didn't know... Smile

12099 - In that first screen, if Jack steps toward the bed, he falls to his death. Meant to be?
Thanks.

No - it's not meant to be that way, of course..... but unfortunately this is due to a bug (or: 'loophole') in the game, concerning layer issues.

Someone has reported that before, and I have replied on that, reporting that I have found a solution around it (which I have already designed into the game and which you'll see in the next UD), by simply letting that 1st room start with Jack standing a few feet further to the right. Then it should not happen anymore.

(It only happened occasionally, anyway...but once a player was aware of the issue (s)he could
force
it to happen, unfortunately.)

It's a shame, but it's one of those things a designer can't do too much about (or: against), like that other issue where Jack is able to jump over closed doors under certain circumstances etc.

Re: JS in acid rock? - sherryl199 - 03-02-2011

No big deal and not a criticism - just wondered if it was a
learning experience
or a glitch.

Re: JS in acid rock? - sherryl199 - 03-13-2011

AquaMat replied that the glitch I reported in room 12099 was already noted. I looked for reports about that room before and after I asked if it was a glitch. I did not see any. I think it would be really helpful if posting the room number before a comment was the standard.

Re: JS in acid rock? - otg - 03-14-2011

I think it is standard... my bad... sorry Smile
