Beta 3: Jasperlone Mountains Easy - Wingy - 05-18-2010 I just finished Jasperlone Mountains Easy, just a tad late of Vern releasing beta 3. Anyway, I'll just put it here for you guys to beta test with no delay. The mansion isn't as big as normal. Wait until beta 4, when hard mode is around... it will be much much bigger (I'm looking at 180 rooms) and I'm thinking of a section that players can obtain extra money from by doing extremely hard puzzles. But I don't know what Vern would think of that. : Ideas... ideas...Anyway, yeah -- Here's the mansion. Don't try putting it in your built-in mansion folder; it won't work. Just put it in the custom mansion folder and use the Open Mansionbutton on the main menu, for now. Hey, look at that -- a new avatar. Now which mansion could that be?
Re: Beta 3: Jasperlone Mountains Easy - hawaii - 05-19-2010 FYI: Jasperlone NORMAL has it's own thread. Re: Beta 3: Jasperlone Mountains Easy - divadnala - 05-19-2010 Hi Anthony, I've been playing Jasperlone Mountains Easy and I've run into a couple of problems. I started by going to the left from the start screen and got stuck within a couple of minutes in room 14697, where it's possible to come down on the bat brick before the trapdoor has been opened. I then decided to start on the right side and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the mountain. My only doubt is whether the wind speed towards the summit may be a bit fierce for a beginner to deal with - perhaps it should be a bit less windy in an Easy mansion. So, back to the left-hand side. I managed to avoid getting stuck this time and explored quite a lot of rooms. I'm now frustrated because although I got two blue keys I can only get one purple one. I can see one that I think should be available but I can't find a way to get at it. It's in room 15099 on the bottom level. There is a small ladder going down from the bridge in 15098 but that just drops Jack in the water. Is there a way of getting to the bottom level of these rooms? Re: Beta 3: Jasperlone Mountains Easy - Wingy - 05-19-2010 1) I know Missy. 2) I'll make that grey bat brick a blue one instead. 3) Keep in mind this level is going to be the last level in the game for easy mode, and Wind is sort of the final thing there. There are no monsters for Jack to jump over with the wind, not until normal anyway. The mansion could be said to be slightly between easy/normal, but that was intentional, seeing it was the last easy mansion. 4) In 15098 there is a lever at the top you must switch on. Find a way to that! Find a way to that!If there was an extra yellow key somewhere it would be possible to get across to 14897 via the 3 yellow doors in 14899 which would help - as far as I can see that isn't possible at the moment unless you bring a yellow key from the right-hand (mountain) side of the mansion (see note below about keys and doors) I've finished the mansion and it's apparent that there is an imbalance of keys/doors. At the moment you can't get to the last 2 'treasure' areas that require green and yellow keys and you end up with a spare blue key. Re: Beta 3: Jasperlone Mountains Easy - Wingy - 05-20-2010 Thanks Mapman, I'll fix the number of doors to keys. They should be even in easy. Re: Beta 3: Jasperlone Mountains Easy - RobSeegel - 05-22-2010 Easy Overall... a really outstanding translation of the Normal version to Easy. The use of monsters/animals is good, and the jumps are appropriate. Fits in well with the Blackheart and Magma Easy, though this is definitely larger and a bit trickier in spots, which is appropriate for the final Easy mansion. I'm also really happy that you made it a bit smaller than the Normal version, which will make Normal stronger and more distinctive as a result (at least IMO). 13305 In BBB: youtshould probably be yourin the message I like the wind effect, and I don't think you should slow it down, however given that it is windy, you might moderate a few of the ledges on the left side of the peak. I'd suggest that you make the two small ledges on the top-left of the peak about twice as long as they currently are -- roughly the same size as the ledge on the bottom left. It's an awfully steep descent considering the wind. As an alternative, you could place a ladder from the peak to that small caveand leave the slope as you currently have it. Add some more treasure to the steep slope to lure players to the tricky path. Maybe even suspend some coins in the air, to put them out of jumping range from the safety of the cave. The ladder would serve as a sane path, while a player could go for greater reward on the more difficult route. 15105 In BBB: As an American, I'm partial to rumor vs rumour, but I understand it's spelled rumour just about everywhere else in the world. I wouldn't have even mentioned it if it weren't an included mansion. I'd suggest that if it stays rumour, then we should ensure that all other spellings like this one are consistent throughout (in other mansions, too). The same is true if it gets changed to rumor. Whichever way should be consistent. 14300 When you first enter this room and approach the BBB, you cannot read it because the goblin is positioned to throw a lever. Was this intentional? Probably not because the BBB contains a tip that explains how to avoid the problem This can be fixed easily by starting the goblin in a slightly different location (I'd recommend all the way to the right, against the wall). This isn't too big a deal, after all the same tip is in the tutorial, and chances are the player has used this move before getting to this room at least once.14697 - Got stuck descending on the bat platform on top of the trap door. you could use triggers to fix this. [Note: after playing I saw that you were going to use a blue bat platform. This is probably a better option as it will force the player to find a way to open the trapdoor as you intended.] 15501,15502 - Um... where are the leave blowing from? Through the windows? Just seemed a little strange. ![]() The first time through, I ended up with a blue key and used both green keys earlier, so I didn't have them below. It didn't interfere with me finishing which was good, but I think the Easy levels should have a one-for-one key/door match-up. If nothing else, perhaps the extra blue key should have been a yellow key. You might put the extra green key behind the lower green door. This way, it is still possible to miss out on one of the rooms with treasure, but it is also possible to open all doors. But I don't know what Vern would think of that. I think it's great having optional bonussection or section(s) that are extremely hard! It doesn't prevent players from finishing, and provides an extra challenge and way of getting an even higher score. Re: Beta 3: Jasperlone Mountains Easy - Semi-Native - 05-30-2010 Jack went up to the upper level and rode the gray bat platform down from 14497. Not all the trap doors were open below, though, so Jack is stuck without the necessary yellow keys. |
