Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - VernJensen - 05-14-2010 Post here for comments about Dr. Demented's Den, all difficulties. Begin your post with the room number the comment is referring to, if it refers to a specific room number. Re: Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - sherryl199 - 05-16-2010 Jack takes the large bat platform at the bottom of the left vine from 16498 to 16495 & gets the money and gold key. He goes to the left of the island and gets on the small bat platform back to 16498. He jumps on the rope but changes his mind and goes back to 16495 on the small platform on top of the larger platform. He jumps around a bit and then gets back on the small platform but jumps off of it on the island in 16495. The small platform keeps moving to the right, and Jack has no escape. If he dies, he reappears on the island. BUT if the game is suspended and reopened, the small bat platform reappears, and Jack can return to 16498. Re: Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - sherryl199 - 05-16-2010 16498 - 16495 Normal (should have prefaced the previous message) Re: Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - divadnala - 05-17-2010 Easy 15895 – The first room. The grey door at the left-hand side cannot be used and could be replaced with a wall. Alternatively Jack could start outside and come in through that door – the addition of a couple of rooms might not be a bad thing because the first save point is quite early in the mansion. Accommodation is spelled incorrectly on one of the signs. 15705 – Is this room a bit difficult for an easy mansion with the bird and two relatively fast moving spiders? 15706 – You get a purple key in this room and you then have two choices: 1. You can go back the way you came and use the key in 15906 and you get a replacement purple key and a blue key in 15905. 2. You can use the key in 15705 and you the arrive in a room with a blue door that you have no key for. You can't now get the blue key in 15905 because you've already used the purple key! The effect of this is that you can only get one of the two red keys available in this room. You can't get through the two red doors in 15904 when you slide down the pole and you are stuck. Obviously the better choice is option 1 but a beginner playing an easy mansion might not see this immediately. 16704 – If Jack comes into this room from the right and goes across to collect the money and open the grey door he has no way out. A falling platform appears if he comes into 16704 from the room above, 16504, but not if he comes from 16705. 16498 – 16495 – Sherryl's comments about these rooms apply to Easy as well as Normal. A general point – I find the arrangement of the secrets in this mansion a bit odd. In most cases a secret is behind a clearly visible yellow door e.g. 16097 and 16099. In other cases the secret is found, as you expect in most mansions, by walking through a wall or down a concealed ladder e.g. from 16308 to 16309 and from 15698 to 15898. There are also a couple of areas that could be secrets but aren't – a yellow key in a dark room, 16294, is accessed by jumping off a vine in 16295 and walking through the earth. A yellow key in 16108 is found by going down a concealed ladder underneath a moving platform in 15908. Re: Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - jamesbolton@cox.ne - 05-17-2010 re 16704: you should have 2 blue keys so that you can go through to the room to the right and down the pole Regards Jim Re: Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - divadnala - 05-17-2010 58535F5741505D5E465D5C72515D4A1C5C57320 wrote: re 16704:Unfortunately you have no way of knowing that you should have two blue keys and if you come from 16705 into 16704 without previously visiting the room above (16504) where one of the blue keys is you are trapped because the appearance of the falling platform which would allow you to get back into 16705 is triggered by your descent on the grey bat platform from 16504. Re: Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - sherryl199 - 05-19-2010 16498 - 16495 My comments also apply to the Hard version. Also, I do't understand why there is a small bat platform on the left, when Jack can leave via the large platform on the right. At least in their first encounter, they seem redundant. Room 15905 has a lever that opens the trap doors the purple key is sitting on. This drops the key down to the lower level, where Jack can pick it up, *without* having opened the purple door. So it seems he should be able to get it either way. Too tricky for Easy is the question, perhaps? Re: Beta 3: Dr. Demented's Den - VernJensen - 05-19-2010 Sherryl -- the small platform on the left in room 16495 is in case Jack jumps onto the platform he came in on, but then quickly jumps off, and then is permanently stuck, having nothing to leave on. It's intended that players don't find this small platform unless their ride leaves without them. But I may change the game's engine to make bat platforms re-appear after a delay, if they leave without you. Since this room seems to be confusing so many people. It seems consistent with itself. Yellow keys themselves are never marked as secret in this mansion. ONce you use a yellow key to open yellow doors, however, the area inside is marked as secret. Even if it was clearly visible. Because you had to find the secret key to open the door. I think this is consistent with the sign at the beginning of the mansion that explains that yellow keys are for secrets. |
