Bad news - leo - 01-05-2009 Hi guys! I just wanted to inform you that the custom mansion file of Jacques' Revenge(sequel to Palais Pompomrouge) seems to be corrupted. Whenever I try to add a new room, the program crashes. I already had about 450 rooms, which I now have to copy/paste into a new file (unless anybody has an idea how I can solve the problem). This means that work on the mansion will take longer than predicted and you might have to wait until summer for beta-release. Sorry
Re: Bad news - Semi-Native - 01-05-2009 :'( Wow, that is such bad luck, leo! I hope someone has an easy solution for you. Good luck. Re: Bad news - rose - 01-05-2009 Oh, Leo! I hope someone of the other skilled builders see this. Have you asked aquaMat for help? Could you mail Vern? I hope there is an solution. Hug from me! Re: Bad news - leo - 01-05-2009 Thanks Ladies! And don't worry: My mansion-builder-spirit is unbroken
Re: Bad news - hawaii - 01-05-2009 Hi Leo, Rose it right! Pls. contact Vern, he definitely would know what to do about it. Isn't there a way to export/import rather than copy paste? Anyway, I'm sure this has happened to someone before and they must have come up with a solution. Just ask! Re: Bad news - Matari - 01-05-2009 Hi Leo Have you tried duplicating the mansion in the finder? This may work, although it may also duplicate the corrupt bit... ![]() Re: Bad news - aquaMat - 01-05-2009 Ahem, leo.... don't you save back-ups during building ? I always do that. I not only put a copy of the mansion onto another disk, but I also save the different stages of development, calling them - say - NewMansion1, NewMansion2.2 etc. That way you can always go back to an earlier version, before a major change / incident etc. BUT - if you really do have only one version / copy of your mansion and that suddenly started to crash there still might be a solution. First of all, I bet you included some custom graphics, or otherwise treated the mansion with(in) Rezilla or another Res-editor ?! Right? Because in most cases it's a corrupted resource bit that lets the game and/or editor crash. My advice: Check every single custom graphic or other custom res ! If possible, make a copy of the mansion and in that copy remove all custom bits. Then it should start perfectly again. Then try adding one custom bit after the other until you find the problem child. Does that help ? Re: Bad news - Sharpie - 01-05-2009 Leo, I don't know if this will help, but I would open Disk Utility and run Disk Permissions and then Disk First Aid on your hard drive. Sometimes Disk First Aid can fix a problem file, but not always. There's nothing more frustrating then losing work. :'( And I second trying to copy the file to a different disk or USB drive. If it doesn't copy, that usually means the file itself is damaged. Re: Bad news - leo - 01-06-2009 Dear everybody! aquaMat just opened my eyes about how NEW I am to the custom-mansion business because - stupidly enough - it never crossed my mind to make a safety copy, which of course I'll be doing from now on. But I didn't fool around with the resources and did any custom graphics. Disk First Aid didn't work either, Catwoman. Anyways: Thanks for all your input and support! And don't worry: Jacques' Revengewill be ready one day...
